AVIA W&S Motorsport again on the NLS podium and in the top 20

W&S Motorsport went to the 53rd Adenauer ADAC Circuit Trophy with four Porsches at the Nürburgring. The driver trio of Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and Ralf Schall finished the race after four hours in third place in Cup 2 and in 18th place overall. The two Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS in AVIA racing and Vöhringer design saw the checkered flag in seventh and tenth place in Cup 3. The series-based Cayman in the V5 class started the race from a promising second grid position, but had an accident in the first hour of the race.

After the cancellation of the second round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series due to the weather, W&S Motorsport was able to drive further important test laps on the Nordschleife and collect data on the Friday before the race. The knowledge paid off and the AVIA racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 992 #120 with Daniel Blickle, Tim Scheerbarth and Ralf Schall at the wheel qualified for the second row of the grid in the highly competitive Cup 2 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN). The AVIA racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #960, piloted by Marius Rauer, Daniel Bohr and Sebastian Vittel, started the race from sixth position in Cup 3. Behind them, the Vöhringer Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS #961 started the four-hour long-distance race from twelfth place. The work on the valance was shared by Jürgen Vöhringer,

Starting driver Tim Scheerbarth set off a veritable firework display in the first laps, taking the lead in the class in the first corner and keeping some of the SP9 GT3 cars behind him. Numerous incidents on the almost 25-kilometer route then slowed him down. Numerous Code 60 phases also became an obstacle for his two cockpit colleagues, Schall and Blickle. In addition, a 60-second time penalty had to be completed before exiting the pits due to excessive speed, but this had no effect on the overall result. In the end, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup #120 crossed the finish line in third place and the drivers secured important points in the PETN.

With 16 participants, the PETN Cup 3 category was the strongest class this weekend and the battles on the track were correspondingly tough. The driver trio of the AVIA racing Cayman GT4 #960 was able to assert itself well in the field and finished the race solidly with seventh place. Optimum team tactics and good driving performances by the three drivers of the Vöhringer Cayman GT4 #961 were ultimately rewarded with tenth place.

Team boss Patrick Wagner sums up the weekend with satisfaction: “It was another typical race before the 24-hour classic. Numerous over-motivated drivers caused many accidents and thus an unpredictable course of the race. So we can be very satisfied with third place in the GT3 Cup Porsche. The two GT4 Caymans were also solid and all three cars crossed the finish line unscathed. Unfortunately, the V5 Cayman's accident clouded the result after a promising grid position. At the next race we will attack again to get even further up the field.”

Tim Scheerbarth says: “Qualifying was difficult. There was a lot of traffic and a lot of accidents. We didn't have a free lap, so third on the grid was the maximum. At the start I had just the right nose and was able to brake my way to the front in the first corner. As the race progressed, it was difficult to get into a rhythm due to the many double yellow and code 60 phases. The car ran very well and we again scored a lot of points for the Trophy classification. I am very happy to finish the race in the top 20 again. it shows how fast we can be. At the next race in eight weeks we hope to climb even further up the podium.”

Also satisfied, but a little self-critical, Ralf Schall looks back on the course of the race: “Finishing third again and being 18th overall is a good result and I am happy for the team. The Porsche remained flawless, which is already a success after such a race. I probably pressed the gas too early in front of the pit exit. This is the first time this has happened to me in years and I want to apologize to the team for the mistake. That shouldn't happen and luckily it didn't affect the final placement. I had a lot of fun at W&S Motorsport again – a great team, thanks for everything!”

“It was turbulent on the track throughout the weekend. The first accident occurred just a few corners after the start, and this continued throughout the course. Personally, I'm not entirely satisfied with seventh place and we'll have to improve a bit for the next race. But with a full field and some high-spirited competitors, the result is okay in the end,” sums up Daniel Bohr from Luxembourg.

Before the 50th ADAC TotalEnergies 24h race from May 25th to 29th, the season highlight, the dress rehearsal at the ADAC 24h Nürburgring qualification race from May 6th to 8th is on the program for W&S Motorsport. The next round of the Nürburgring Endurance Series will be held in eight weeks on June 25th.
