Danish super talent Bastian Buus joins BWT Lechner Racing
The BWT Lechner Racing Team for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season 2022 is complete: The young Danish super talent Bastian Buus, together with Luxembourg's Dylan Pereira and the British ex-champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Harry King, will represent the Austrian team in this prestigious and highly competitive championship.
"It's really hard to process all this. It's been two years since I switched from karting to a racing car, and although we had big ambitions from the start, I couldn't imagine that it would be possible to get this far in such a short time," says the 18-year-old, who won the GT4 Pro-Am European Championship in 2020, about this new opportunity. "To be able to work with a team like BWT Lechner Racing is a dream come true for me. I will have the opportunity to learn a lot from some very fast riders and a fantastically trained crew. And that's what I'll need, because my goal is to win the Porsche Mobil 1 Rookie Championship. I am very much looking forward to working with the team and am 110 percent motivated to deliver a perfect job from my side."
Buus has high expectations for his future as a racing driver: "One of my big goals is to be selected as the official Porsche Junior driver at the Porsche Motorsport Shootout. BWT Lechner Racing will be the perfect team to give me the chance to prove my talent and be recognised. A big thank you to Robert and Walter Lechner, who are former racing drivers themselves and who decided to believe in my performance and give me a chance this season. Thanks also to BWT and my sponsor network Flatout Club, who made it possible for me to conclude the contract – without them none of this would have been possible."
BWT Lechner Racing Team Principal Robert Lechner welcomes Buus as a very valuable reinforcement for the team: "I watched Bastian especially in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, where he was runner-up in the junior championship in 2021. He is a great talent with a lot of speed and impressive overtaking manoeuvres. I remember congratulating him on Instagram last summer after a great maneuver in a race, that's how our contact began. At only 18 years old, he definitely has the potential to become an absolute top driver in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. I am sure that with our experience and the support we can give him as a team, we will all help him to make his way to the top."
