Double podium for Harry King during Festival of Dreams

Harry King maintained his front-running form in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland with a brace of top three results from the season's second meeting at Hockenheim.

Harry headed into the weekend looking to try and replicate his impressive performance on his debut in one of the most competitive national championships, having scored pole position and a race win first time out at Spa Francorchamps.

Running as part of the Festival of Dreams to celebrate 75 years of the famous German carmaker, Harry kicked off his weekend with a solid top three showing in free practice at the wheel of his Allied Racing-run car, and would improve his time when qualifying came around.

That time was good enough for fourth on the grid, leaving confidence high that Harry would be able to add to his podium tally when race one came around.

A strong start when the lights went out saw Harry get up the inside of Leon Köhler going into turn one, and he then defended his position going down to turn two before slotting in behind Loek Hartog in P3.

A clash further down the order at turn twelve then saw the safety car deployed, backing up the field before the action resumed with little over 22 minutes remaining. Holding station despite the close attentions of Morris Schuring, Harry fought hard to keep his rival at bay whilst also trying to get ahead of Harthog before the safety car came out for a second time to remove a stricken car.

Less than seven minutes remained when the action restarted for a second time, and Harry was able to edge his way clear of Schuring through the final laps to secure a solid third place.

Race two would kick off with Harry on the front row of the grid alongside Harthog and he held his position through the opening two corners before a fine defensive move into the hairpin allowed him to keep race one winner Larry Ten Voorde at bay.

Although unable to keep pace with Harthog at the front, Harry had built a gap over third place when the safety car was deployed to remove a car from the circuit just after the half-way stage.

Following the restart, Harry would keep the leader honest until the safety car was called out a second time, with the race ultimately drawing to a close under caution.

The second place finish means three podium finishes from four for Harry this season - to go with a Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup win in Monaco -  and ensure he remains inside the top three in the points ahead of the next event at Zandvoort in two weeks time.

"It’s been another positive weekend, and scoring two podium finishes means a strong haul of points towards the championship," Harry said. "Of course, it would have been great to come away from Hockenheim with another race win but that wasn’t quite in reach for us and it was a case of maximising the races and getting what we could.

"As well as scoring solid points for myself, we’ve also scored some good points for the team which is an important thing to consider when you look at the quality of the grid, and now I can look ahead to trying to get back on the top step at Zandvoort next time out."
