Hampus Ericsson on top after an eventful premiere weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia

Hampus Ericsson tops the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia after the premiere in Anderstorp. With victory in the first heat and a third place in the second, he left Scandinavian Raceway with 42 points in the bag. That's two points more than reigning champion Lukas Sundahl, who left the premiere with double second places. Third in the standings ahead of the next competition, which is run in France, is Ola Nilsson who won the final heat ahead of Sundahl and Ericsson.

The premiere of the 20th season of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia was decided in the best possible conditions. Anderstorp offered sun and warmth on all competition days.
The drivers enjoyed themselves and the happiest afterwards were the trio Ericsson, Sundahl and Nilsson. Top tipped as they were, they lived up to high expectations.
”A tasty start to the season”, noted Ericsson, who won the first heat from pole position and who defended his star position from grid three in the second.
But Kumlasonen had to step in. Towards the end of race two, he was courted intensively by Marcus Annervi. Contact occurred in the finishing curve and the incident became the subject of race management's interest. However, Ericsson got away with a written warning.

Not entirely satisfied,
Lukas Sundahl, who was second in the first heat, took command from pole position in the second, but after a few laps behind the safety car, he was unable to defend his lead against a fast Ola Nilsson.
”Two second places is okay, but I'm not completely satisfied. It was going great until the restart, but the safety car was slow which meant I couldn't clear my tires of rubber residue. That's why I had a hard time defending myself against Ola”, stated the reigning champion.

Nilsson superior
Nilsson, who with Saturday's victory has actually won five of the last seven races in the championship, complained of similar problems to Sundahl. Nevertheless, he managed to get past and well in the lead, no one could threaten the Skåne. Nilsson won the second heat by a landslide.
”So damn nice! What speed we had, said Nilsson and admitted that the success in the race (fourth place and victory) was revenge for Friday's qualifying”.

Tough start
Marcus Annervi was satisfied third after the first heat. After the fourth place, and the incident with Ericsson, in race two, he was not so easy to laugh. He is still fourth overall in the championship, with a good hold on the drivers in front of him.
Emil Persson and Daniel Roos were other title candidates who had wished for a better start in the championship. Persson was sixth and seventh in the heats after a less than good qualifying and a crash in race two. For Roos, it went much worse than that.
”A brake pad in qualifying, missed start in the first heat and puncture in the second. I've tried everything this weekend. Disaster”, said Roos, whose best result was a ninth place.

Personal best Happier than the above-mentioned trio were, among others, double fifth place finishers Jan Magnussen and Gustav Bergström. The latter showed that he had taken developmental steps during the winter and struck with a personal best, a sixth place, in the second heat. In the first, he finished in tenth place after, among other things, having played a tough match against the aforementioned Roos.

Karlsson and Bergström
In the Pro Am class, Mikael Karlsson and Christoffer Bergström shared both the victories and third places. Karlsson won the class in the first race, Bergström the second. Overall in the race, both took the checkered flag in eighth place. Second place between the two was first Hampus Hedin and then Thomas Karlsson.
Despite the tie, Karlsson tops the table two points ahead of Bergström. The former received well-deserved bonus points for fastest lap in both races.
”Good start to the season. This is my first race weekend in the latest generation of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) and it feels good that I'm keeping up well right away”, said Bergström afterwards.
Mikael Karlsson was of course happy to be in the lead, but sighed a little lightly over his effort in the second heat. Especially the start.
”Disaster. I think I got too much wheelspin and it felt like last to go. After that, it was mostly about following John and hoping for other people's mistakes”, noted Karlsson.
