Laurin Heinrich drives to his fifth triumph of the season at the Sachsenring

Laurin Heinrich (Germany/SSR Huber Racing) clinched his fifth win of the season in the 13th round of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland on Saturday at the Sachsenring. The Porsche Junior was classified ahead of Bastian Buus (Denmark/Allied Racing) and Morris Schuring (Netherlands/SSR Huber Racing). Three races before the end of the season, Heinrich is in the championship standings with 243 points ahead of Larry ten Voorde (Netherlands/Team GP Elite), who has 203 points under his belt. Dylan Pereira (Luxembourg/IronForce Racing by Phoenix) is third with 191 points.

The spectators in the grandstands of the 3.645-kilometer route in Hohenstein-Ernstthal saw a turbulent race. In sunshine and 18 degrees Celsius, 31 drivers took to the track in their 510 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Heinrich started from pole position and immediately took the lead in the field. Ten Voorde was able to improve from fourth to second position after two laps. The safety car had to be deployed twice and the time differences that had already been achieved melted away. On lap 16, Heinrich was briefly carried too far out of the corner and ten Voorde used the opportunity to overtake, but the 20-year-old countered two corners later and took back the lead. The fans held their breath when suddenly an overlay from the race management appeared on the monitors: Heinrich was instructed to return his top position to ten Voorde. After 21 laps, the order at the finish was ten Voorde ahead of Heinrich and Buus. However, the stewards then watched the decisive maneuvers again from different camera perspectives and came to the conclusion that ten Voorde had wrongly gained an advantage over Loek Hartog (Netherlands/Black Falcon). Ten Voorde received a time penalty and fell back to fifth place in the result classification behind Hartog. “There was really a lot going on in this race. In the end I was able to convert my pole position into a win and also set the fastest race lap. I'm happy that I finally extended my lead in the championship,” said Heinrich. Buus inherited second place: “I started from eighth place and was in fourth place for a while. I saw before me that it was very close. Keeping calm and then being there at the decisive moment, this strategy got me my podium in the end,” explained Buus, who is a member of the Porsche Talent Pool. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth place in the final list of results went to Dutchmen Morris Schuring (SSR Huber Racing), Loek Hartog (Black Falcon), ten Voorde and Huub van Eijndhoven (GP Elite).

Carlos Rivas (Luxembourg/Black Falcon) won the ProAm classification ahead of Jan-Erik Slooten (Germany/IronForce Racing by Phoenix) and Georgi Donchev (Bulgaria/Huber Racing). Van Eijndhoven received the trophy as the best rookie. After 13 of 16 championship races, Heinrich was able to claim five wins and ten Voorde and Pereira four first places each. Buus has been on the top step of the podium once this season.

On Sunday, NITRO will report live on German free TV from 2:15 p.m. from the 14th race. The live stream on the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland YouTube and Facebook channels and in the Porsche Motorsport Hub starts at 2:25 p.m.
