Monza Thrills: Parkins & Greatorex Dominate Porsche Club GB Sim Series Rounds

The Porsche Club GB Sim Racing Series delivered two action packed races at Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Sunday afternoon. Ryan Parkins qualified on pole with upcoming YouTube star Dave "DaveCam" Cameron as a guest drive as a guest driver in second for race one. With championship contender Matthew Donnington unable to participate in rounds 5 & 6, this gave a great opportunity for the leading drivers to claim valuable points.  Turn one at Monza has the potential to cause chaos, but thankfully the Porsche Club GB sim racers all made a clean start in the first race, with Parkins holding off an attack from Cameron in the opening stages.

The leading pack soon pulled away with Parkins and Cameron side by side on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, contact was made between the leading pair and resulted in them both dropping places, with an unlucky William Chadwick getting caught up in the incident. Greatorex was promoted to first place, with the ever consistent Carl Sharkey moving into second. Parkins fought back through the field to retake first place with a clean move on Greatorex into Curva Parabolica, eventually crossing the line with only half a second between them.

The second race featured the reversed grid and as always there was plenty of drama on the first lap. Pole sitter Amreek Sachdev managed to break away cleanly while behind him Ryan Penny was hit in the rear, triggering a chain of incidents into turn one. Ryan Parkins and Austin Greatorex, starting from the back of the grid, managed to keep their noses clean and move up to P6 & P7 almost immediately. Sachdev eventually lost the lead to James Cummings, who was closely followed by Charlie Oliver. Although, it wasn't long before the chasing pair of Parkins and Greatorex snatched the top two positions. Another outstanding performance as Parkins took home the victory with a healthy lead from Greatorex this time around. Oliver and Cummings both continued their stellar performances, taking third and fourth respectively.

Ryan Parkins: “ I'm really happy. The first race was so nerve racking, the temps kept on rising on circuit. I was having a chat with Austin after the race, he's so consistent and keeps racking up the points. It's good fun to battle with him. When Dave Cam got past in race 1, I wanted to see where he was strong, but he was consistent throughout the opening stages. Regarding the incident, I thought he wouldn't hold the line throughout the braking zone and assumed he was bluffing, but he had the inside and we went side by side. We were wedged together, in hindsight, I should have stopped the car but it's difficult in that corner. Next week at Oulton Park I won't have had much practice, so I will have to be careful for the race. Many of the guys here have raced these circuits in real life, so I expect good racing throughout the season.”

Austin Greatorex: “I did what I needed to do, I couldn't keep pace with Ryan today; he had too much speed. I just stayed focused and held my lines, I was fortunate in race one. Race two I missed the carnage and brought home a result. The next round is a challenging track, at Oulton. I'll practice this week and see if I can keep with Ryan Parkins as it seems like myself, Ryan and Carl Sharkey are the main competitors so far.”
