Proton Huber Competition half-time champion in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland

The first half of the season in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland ended in Budapest - Proton Huber Competition leads the drivers' standings with Larry ten Voorde and the team from Hofkirchen is also at the top of the team standings.

For the first time in ten years, the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland travelled to Hungary and competed in the support programme of the International GT Open at the Hungaroring on the outskirts of Budapest. Proton Huber Competition entered a total of five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars on the Hungarian Grand Prix circuit. In addition to championship leader Larry ten Voorde, his compatriot Flynt Schuring, Horst Felix Felbermayr, Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher started for the team.

In the first race, ten Voorde got off to an excellent start from second on the grid and pressed into the lead in the first corner. However, race control decided that the manoeuvre was unsportsmanlike, which is why the two drivers at the front had to swap positions. A decision that the Proton Huber Competition team could not understand, but had to accept. As the race progressed, ten Voorde had no chance of taking the lead and saw the chequered flag in a commanding second place.

After a chaotic qualifying session, which had to be ended early due to an accident, the other drivers of the Porsche team from the district of Passau started from the back of the field and had to race to catch up on the technically demanding circuit, which makes overtaking difficult. Alexander Tauscher and Sebastian Freymuth were still able to score important points in tenth and twelfth positions. Felbermayr and Schuring failed to score any points after collisions.

In Sunday's race, the drivers of Christoph Huber's team started from the front of the midfield. Even in the race, the pilots were unable to make any real progress on the overtaking-hostile circuit. Larry ten Voorde, Flynt Schuring and Alexander Tauscher finished the eighth race of the 2024 Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany season in sixth to eighth place. In third place in the rookie classification, Schuring was able to climb onto the podium in the rookie classification and score important points in the sub-ranking after retiring the previous day. In 14th position, Freymuth was able to add another two points to his tally.

In the overall standings, three-time Carrera Cup Germany champion Larry ten Voorde has a 22-point lead over his closest rival. The Porsche team from Lower Bavaria also holds a commanding 29-point lead in the team standings. Flynt Schuring is still in a strong third place in the rookie classification.

"We scored solid points in Budapest, extending our lead in the standings and clinching the half-time championship. We got the maximum out of what we could achieve here," said a satisfied Franziska Lambacher and Michael Dirsch, who manage the programme in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany at Proton Huber Competition. "We are delighted that we were able to clinch the half-time championship in both the overall and team standings. This proves to us that we have made the right adjustments after the difficult 2023 season. However, we are also aware that we still have a lot of work ahead of us and will continue to work hard!"

At the same time as the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany, Proton Huber Competition also competed in the Porsche Sports Cup Suisse in Imola, Italy. In the first race of the Open GT, Marcelo Tomasoni was able to clinch class victory in Class 21 in difficult weather conditions and followed this up with a second place in the second race. The Brazilian thus extended his lead in the overall standings. His team-mate Merabi Mekvabishvili finished twelfth and eighth in his class after a difficult qualifying session.

For Proton Huber Competition, the coming weeks will be dominated by the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Within a few weeks, races at the Red Bull Ring, in Silverstone, at the Hungaroring and on the Ardennes rollercoaster at Spa-Francorchamps are on the schedule. At the race on the Red Bull Ring in Styria, the Porsche team will also be competing with a different line-up: Horst Felix Felbermayr will make his second start in the international one-make series and replace regular driver Roar Lindland at his home race. Sebastian Freymuth and Alexander Tauscher will start in the two other Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.
