Proton Huber Competition masters rain battle at Silverstone

The fourth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup season at Silverstone was characterised by heavy rainfall, which the Proton Huber Competition drivers mastered flawlessly.

Just one week after the event at the Red Bull Ring, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup continued in Great Britain. The international one-make series made a appearance at the "Home of British Motor Racing" on the former military airfield in Silverstone, where the first Formula 1 race took place in 1950. Proton Huber Competition entered four Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars: In addition to regular drivers Sebastian Freymuth, Roar Lindland and Alexander Tauscher, the Bavarian racing team fielded a fourth car for local hero Josh Stanton, who, like last year, made a guest start at Silverstone.

In qualifying on Saturday, Alexander Tauscher secured the best starting position for Christoph Huber's team. Tauscher qualified 11th on the grid. The three other vehicles followed at the back of the field.

The most difficult conditions awaited the drivers in the race. Heavy rainfall flooded the traditional circuit in Northamptonshire and even caused the race to be interrupted. Alexander Tauscher coped well with the conditions and pushed his Porsche up to ninth position after the race had been authorised. But after the race, Tauscher received a 5-second time penalty for touching a competitor during an overtaking manoeuvre. As a result of the penalty, he slipped back to 18th position and dropped out of the points.

Guest entrant Josh Stanton followed in 20th place, just one position ahead of Sebastian Freymuth from Berlin. Norwegian Roar Lindland completed the Proton Huber Competition line-up in 24th position.

"It was a difficult weekend for us with the constantly changing weather conditions," said Michael Dirsch, who heads the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup programme at Proton Huber Competition. "Our drivers did a good job and did not suffer any damage. Unfortunately, in the end we lacked the necessary bit of luck for a top 10 result."

The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup will continue from 19 to 21 July at the Hungaroring near Budapest - just one week later, the series will start on the Ardennes rollercoaster at Spa-Francorchamps.
