Sam Kuitert claims deserved victory at the Nürburgring in the PorscheSport Carrera Cup

The Racekraft Esports driver had the edge on his rivals, to become the fourth different race winner in an unpredictable second season of the virtual series. Gunonso Tasdelen qualified on pole for the first Heat Race of the night, whilst Kevin Nielsen lined up in second ahead of Maxim Ramsteijn who led the standings going into Round 4. Brian Lockwood qualified in fourth as Alexander Hetmank took this final Top 5 spot for Heat Race 1.

Heat Race 2 and both Racekraft Esports drivers lined up on the front row with Sam Kuitert on pole with Kane Halliburton alongside. Kamil Grabowski qualified in third for Heat Race 2, as Alexander Lauritzen and Pascal Costa made up the Top 5 for the final Heat Race of the night. Tempers flared in Heat Race 1, as pandemonium in an action-packed first few corners saw Quentin Vialatte, who was serving a qualifying ban after his aggressive performance in Imola, move up to sixth from starting in eighteenth on the grid. Whilst David Ward missed his breaking point going into Turn 1 taking an unfortunate Brian Lockwood with him who managed to recover to ninth. Kevin Nielsen, meanwhile, took the race lead and began to stretch the gap over Ramsteijn who won the Feature Race in the last round at Imola. Whilst the real battle in Heat Race 1 was for the all-important 10th place between Bastien Mattler and Vince Peters going into the final lap with Peters winning the battle as Nielsen hung on from the challenge of Ramsteijn on the final lap to win Heat Race 1 and start the Feature Race at the Nürburgring on pole.

With World Championship knowledge in the team behind him, Racekraft’s Sam Kuitert was on a mission to prove himself after Imola. The 19 drivers in Heat Race 2 producing good hard racing pushing the Porsche 911 Cup cars to the limit. Alexander Lauritzen was able to get past Kane Halliburton which left Halliburton’s teammate Kuitert exposed. Florian Lebigre and Pascal Costa showcased a superb battle for fifth in Heat Race 2., Lebigre, coming out on top. Dutch star Kuitert claimed a consecutive Heat Race win to line up next to Ramsteijn for the fourth Feature Race of the 2021 season.

As the light began to dip and Dusk began to set over the historic German Grand Prix circuit. The Consolation Race at the Nürburgring, featured big names with points to prove as Bastien Mattler started on pole. A rocket start from Rebecca Pauline who started third on the grid allowed the Fiercely Forward driver to take the race lead as the rest of the grid got a clean start- an unusual sight to see in a Consolation Race. Cenik Inceoglu was on the charge in the opening laps and worked his way up the pack to third whilst Justin Rehm ran deep into a perilous Turn 1 falling to thirteenth with 15 minutes to go.

Kirill Kolobuxov began carving his way up the grid having recovered himself as Nelson Costa De Sousa took a heavy nudge and a trip into the gravel from Hendryk Lichtenhagen under breaking and passing Sousa to move up to ninth. The dreadful final chicane at the end of the circuit took victims throughout the evening, this time taking Maik Wiesekopsieker who ran a good race as the desperation from the 19 drivers began to take effect in the final minutes as the Porsche 911’s car lights beamed under the setting sun. But a superb drive by Rebecca Pauline meant justice prevailed, as the Fiercely Forward driver claimed the Consolation Race win after defending a vastly experienced Marcel Jocheim for the full 20-minute duration. An opportunistic Justin Rehm recovered to take the critical final spot to finish 10th and compete in the Feature Race.

The stunning graphics being impressively realistic as the Feature Race got underway. It was Kevin Nielsen who started on pole, that eventually came out in the race lead after a busy first few corners. The top 3 of Nielsen, Kuitert and Ramsteijn in a vicious opening lap of the Feature Race providing all the action for viewers on RaceSpot TV. Four drivers went wide into the final corner which caused chaos as Lebigre spun catching out Kane Halliburton whose race was running completely different to his teammate up at the top of the field. The R8G Esports team, owned by former Formula 1 driver and now IndyCar driver Romain Grosjean, were driving well in the Feature Race with Quentin Vialatte and Florian Lebigre.

Sam Kuitert took his opportunity to take the race lead by making the move on Nielsen as Ramsteijn kept up to the battling pair. Kamil Grabowski who appeared to be very racy in his Porsche 911 Cup car battled for seventh with Gunonso Tasdelen, Alexander Lauritzen and Nelson De Costa.

Championship contender Brian Lockwood was unable to break into the Top 10 at the 3.9-mile circuit after a difficult Feature Race. Championship leader Maxim Ramsteijn who held a 6-point lead over Kevin Nielsen coming into Round 4 also had a difficult Feature Race, eventually battling for points down in eighth after been caught up in the battle between Vialatte who tapped Birse going into the chicane. Sam Kuitert final crossing the line to be crowned as the Nürburgring and Round 4 winner.

And on his first win of the season, Sam Kuitert seemed pleased that the effort from trying to develop every week has “finally paid off.” Even though he admitted that winning the Championship is not a goal or target he and his team have but if they get on the podium or win again, he will not say no. Speaking about his move on Kevin Nielsen and the Nürburgring circuit, the Dutch driver felt he produced a clean move at the best opportunity to do so, racing on the Grand Prix circuit which is “hard to overtake” on with “not many spots to do so besides the chicane and Turn 1 where you can drive alongside each other which can be fun but, in the chicane, it’s all or nothing.”

Next up on the seven-race calendar is Brands Hatch on May 16th with the intensity, drama and fighting spirit seemingly set to make the Championship battle roar to the final round in three races time.
