The TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team ended its most successful season to date in London

At the London E-Prix, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team ended its most successful season to date after 16 races. With the Porsche 99X Electric and its drivers Pascal Wehrlein and António Félix da Costa (POR), the squad from Weissach celebrated four victories in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Due to the constant rain in London, the last race of season 9 of the innovative electric racing series got off to a hesitant start. Two attempts to start behind the safety car were aborted for safety reasons. An hour and a half late, the 22 drivers were sent to the season finale on the spectacular ExCeL Circuit in East London's Docklands, which is used both outdoors and in an exhibition hall. Despite the difficult conditions, there were no significant incidents.

For the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team, which had traveled to London with a chance of winning the World Team Championship, Pascal Wehrlein scored a point in tenth place. He won the two night races in Diriyah (Saudi Arabia) and one race in Jakarta (Indonesia) with the Porsche 99X Electric this season. His teammate António Félix da Costa, winner in Cape Town, South Africa, finished 16th. In the race on Saturday, starting from 17th on the grid, he made up 15 places with the most spectacular catch-up race of the season and crossed the finish line in second place. However, he subsequently received an incomprehensible time penalty and was thus deprived of the podium he deserved.

With the Porsche 99X Electric of the Porsche customer team Avalanche Andretti, Jake Dennis (GBR) secured the world championship title at his home race. Pascal Wehrlein finished fourth in the drivers' standings, António Félix da Costa ninth. André Lotterer (GER), Avalanche Andretti's second driver, finished 18th. In the team classification, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team finished fourth behind new world champions Envision Racing, Jaguar and Avalanche Andretti.

The race 16
Pascal Wehrlein started the last race of the season from P10 with his Porsche 99X Electric. He was able to catch up a position in the meantime, but lost it again and finished on his grid position. António Félix da Costa, who only started from P20, was able to move up four places in a race with just a few overtaking manoeuvres.

Comments on the London E-Prix, race 16

Florian Modlinger, overall project manager Formula E:“Thanks to the team and the development team for the good work this season. We had imagined the race today differently. However, because of the weather conditions, there was no energy limitation. As a result, we had a flatout race with only a few overtaking manoeuvres. It was therefore very difficult to work your way forward from your starting positions. António made up four places, Pascal finished in his starting position. Ultimately, that was a disappointing result for us.”

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94):“We had a lot of strong races this season and led both championships for a long time. In the last few races, however, we didn't manage to achieve the same good results as at the beginning of the season and lost a lot of points as a result. This is of course disappointing. Nevertheless, we have become significantly stronger overall compared to the last few years. That gives hope. A big thank you to the whole team for their hard work.”

António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13):“Today we saw again that we have to keep working on our qualifying. That will be our big task in the postseason. In the race we have a very competitive car. Today it was very difficult to overtake in these extreme conditions. Nevertheless, we take home some positive insights. I am sure we will come back stronger in the new season.”

Porsche in Formula E
In 2023, the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team will contest its fourth season in the world's first all-electric racing series with the Porsche 99X Electric developed in Weissach. As the first Porsche customer team in Formula E, Avalanche Andretti uses two Porsche 99X Electric. As an accelerator for innovative and sustainable mobility technologies, Formula E has been bringing exciting motorsport to people in the big cities since 2014. With the all-electric Taycan Turbo S, Porsche is once again providing the official safety car this season, underscoring the importance of Formula E for Porsche Motorsport.
