Wärnelöv celebrated podium with purchase of new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)

In the Kanonloppet at Gelleråsen Arena, Albin Wärnelöv captured his first podium in the Porsche Approved Cup. He celebrated that success by buying a new car. Next year, the 34-year-old from Småland will drive the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).

2022 is Albin Wärnelöv's debut year in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. With previous experience in the STCC and the Renault Clio Cup, he is doing his first racing season in a rear-wheel drive car. “

Since I come from front-wheel drive, it has been a challenge to find the right fit in the Porsche, but now we feel that we are starting to understand the rear-wheel drive, how to get the speed and handle the race. We develop all the time and most recently in Karlskoga we took a big step. From being over half a second behind our closest competitors, we were a second faster and only had a few tenths to those who were closest ahead of us”, says Albin Wärnelöv and adds: “We got third place, which was fun. Of course we had a little fluency with some breaking, but you have to take the checkered flag as well. We celebrated the success by buying a new car, but the idea of a 992 was already there when we decided on the Porsche Carrera Cup in January. But then there were no new cars left”.

Albin Wärnelöv competes for Micke Kågered Racing where he has Lukas Sundahl and Andreas Ahlberg as teammates. The cooperation in the team has been of great importance to Wärnelöv during the season. “

Being able to do this together with others and having someone to compare myself to has triggered me a lot. It has facilitated my step from STCC to Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. We have received very good help and have a good plan to step into the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). We obviously need to find more speed, but I think it will come the more I ride. We simply need more miles by car”.

Team manager Micke Kågered is happy about the collaboration with Albin Wärnelöv, his father Johnny and older brother Johan.

“Great people to deal with and it is gratifying to see the progress Albin has made at his pace during the season. I look forward to continued cooperation”, says Kågered.
