Duckhams Yuasa Racing with Redline aiming to carry momentum into Silverstone

Duckhams Yuasa Racing with Redline is set for the penultimate meeting of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season as it heads to Silverstone this weekend (September 24/25) for two races on the short and action-packed National circuit.

The team enjoyed a successful visit to Thruxton last time out, as championship hopeful Adam Smalley claimed second and third place finishes to bring himself firmly back into contention for the title, while Oliver White continued his improvements on track, scoring two eighth places.

Silverstone’s National circuit is just 1.6 miles long and features only five corners, making it one of the shortest laps on the calendar. However, it is also a fast lap, with the previous generation of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars able to reach speeds of over 150 mph and averaging more than 108 mph.

Both Adam and Oliver will have an official test on Wednesday, 21st September to familiarise themselves with the track and work on setups for the weekend, before the usual two practice sessions on Friday. Saturday features the all-important qualifying session, at 14:00, with two 28 lap contests on Sunday, September 25th at 10:45 and 16:15, with the latter live on ITV4.

Adam Smalley, #21, Pro

“We had a great weekend last time out at Thruxton, one of our strongest so far, which has boosted our confidence going into Silverstone. We showed some great pace, we had a very strong car, and I'm confident that we can take that into this one.

“The 992 style 911 GT3 Cup car is great around any track, and Silverstone is a tricky little circuit with only four or five corners. The whole field is going to be very tight, and it'll be interesting to see how everyone compares.

“Qualifying has been crucial this season. It's very difficult if you're not in that top five, so it'll be important that we do all our hard work in the official Wednesday test and carry that through, finesse it on Friday, and do the job on Saturday and Sunday. I'm currently lying third in the championship standings, and we closed in on the lead last time. I just need to keep focusing on myself. We're getting stronger each time we go out so fingers crossed I can have a strong showing.”

Oliver White, #2, Pro

“I'm looking forward to Silverstone. This is a track that I've had a lot of success out in the past and I won the Walter Hayes Trophy there a few years ago. It's quite a technical track, so it won't be that easy to learn in the Porsche, but the advantage is it's a short lap which means you get plenty of laps in testing and hopefully, I'll get up to speed fairly quickly.

“I think the last time I did a Wednesday test was Knockhill and in terms of competitiveness, it's probably the best event I've had this year. Hopefully, I can do something similar, use the Wednesday to get properly up to speed, and get amongst the front runners.

“If you look from above, the lap looks really simple, but Silverstone is actually quite technical. If you get a small thing wrong on one of the corners leading onto the straights, you lose a lot of lap time.

“My aim before the end of the year is to try and get a reverse grid start and to get that you need to be in the top five or six. Hopefully, I'll have enough race pace to challenge for a podium. It's quite ambitious, but that's what I would love to have happen. This time of year, some rain might mix it up a bit, so you never know if there's something I could take advantage of.”
