Will Aspin ready to “extract every bit of performance” as Carrera Cup heads to Silverstone

Will Aspin is ready to return to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this weekend (September 24/25) as the series heads to Silverstone for the penultimate meeting of the 2022 season.

A Pro-Am class front runner for the first six races of the campaign, the Team Parker Racing driver has had to contend with bad luck in recent races which has derailed his championship aspirations.

However, the teenager bounced back with a podium at Thruxton last time out and remains positive as he aims to finish as high up the standings as possible in his first season in the series.

After a busy August where he was behind the wheel for three of the four weekends, including a maiden race in Europe in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux at Assen, Will has had time to reflect on what he has learned and is ready to apply it as he climbs back aboard his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car on Wednesday, September 21st for an official test day on the 1.6-mile Silverstone National circuit.

Track action resumes on Friday, 23rd, with two free practice periods before the all-important qualifying session a day later at 15:15. The first of two 28 lap races is set for 10:45 on Sunday, September 25th, with the second at 16:15, which will be broadcast live on ITV4.

Will Aspin

“I think it will be a good weekend. We learned a lot at Thruxton, focusing on what we can do and how to do it. We didn't show it in qualifying, but I think being in the car every week in August was really beneficial for me and the team, so we can work together and make the whole package stronger and stronger.

“For Silverstone we’ll go into the weekend and extract every bit of performance out of me and the car. Having all this time off over the break has helped me think about things, realise what I wasn’t doing well, and help me calm down a bit. I've got a test on Wednesday and I'm looking forward to getting back in the car as four weeks without being in it gets quite boring!

“We probably won't be able to be close the gap down in the championship standings now, but we can try our best to get third or even second, so we've just got to keep trying until we cross the line at Brands Hatch in the October. We're kind of creating a little championship for ourselves over the next two rounds and four races. I think we'll be able to race more than we did at Thruxton but still, at every track we’ve been to this season, qualifying has been key and it's something we've got to get on top of.”
