Enzo Elias climbs 18 positions in Goiânia
With the arrival of the new generation of Porsche Cup cars for the Porsche Carrera Cup Brazil, much was said about the difficulty that the 992 would bring to overcome because of the larger downforce generated. However, Enzo Elias, the youngest Porsche championship champion in the world, was thinking in the second race of the inaugural stage in Goiânia.
After an abandonment in the final laps of race 1, Elias saw the challenge of climbing a disputed peloton on Sunday afternoon. The #73 rider's journey began by jumping from 23rd to 9th place in just two laps. There were 14 positions won in the opening laps.
Elias followed his quest for his first podium of the year and a better end to a stage that seemed doomed to disposal. Four laps forward and he crossed the line in eighth position. Throughout the unlikely climb, it was possible to see and hear the crowd vibrating and celebrating with each overtaking of the pilot of the Midwest region.
A few spins later, Enzo found his next challenge in Pedro Aguiar, competition of young talents of the category. Elias tried the attack, but the #20 defended well and made the Brasiliense rethink his strategy to take the seventh position of Aguiar. And so he did, two spins later, Enzo attacked the low S and concretized the manoeuvre.
It would still take time in the race to win the fifth place that was with Lucas Salles and win the podium in the opening for #73.
The driver commented after the race: "I knew the speed that the car had, it was a shame what happened in race 1, but I had to try to score well aiming for the championship. The car is actually harder to get over. But motorsport is made of challenges and i couldn't finish the race without trying to get to the podium."
It was a gala display of the current overall champion, showing that the inaugural season of the 992 cars in Brazil promises emotions until the last lap.
