GPX Racing's 2021 plans fall into place

One month after winning the 24 Hours of Dubai, GPX Racing is back at the Dubai Autodrome for the first two meetings of the Asian Le Mans Series. The team led by Pierre-Brice Mena discovers a new environment by competing in an ACO labeled championship. A Porsche 911 GT3 R is entered for Julien Andlauer, Axcil Jefferies and Alain Ferté. For GPX Racing, this new experience allows preparation for the 2021 season to continue.

“The 24 Hours of Dubai started our season well,” Pierre-Brice Mena told Endurance-Info. “It was one of our big goals for the season because this race is important to us. The structure has done a lot for the region since its inception. ”

Mathieu Jaminet, Julien Andlauer, Alain Ferté, Frédéric Fatien and Axcil Jefferies imposed the Porsche 911 GT3 R on the Emirati double clock tower. GPX Racing now has one victory at the Total 24 Hours of spa and one at the 24 Hours of Dubai.

“We encountered very few problems during the race,” said the principal team. “The start of the week was not easy, so we took advantage of qualifying to finalize the set up for the race. We wanted to give everything until the early hours to manage the end of the race. The 24 Hours of Dubai is getting bigger and bigger with teams providing the means to match the crews. You also need to be familiar with the specifics of this race, in particular the management of 'Code 60'. ”

So now the Asian Le Mans Series awaits GPX Racing: “For us, everything is new and I admit that it is quite exciting. We're going to be up against new competitors, new tires, different traffic. The GT crews are very qualitative with many international teams who made the trip. I look forward to seeing the results. We want to build on the momentum of the 24 Hours of Dubai. ”

The decision to join the Asian Le Mans Series was taken very quickly: “For the record, I know Cyrille Taesch-Wahlen (general manager of the championship, note) because we both come from Angoulême. The fact that the championship takes place exclusively in the United Arab Emirates weighed in the balance. The only thought was whether we were going to put in a second Porsche or not. The decision was made to concentrate fully on one. ”

With four invitations to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT, the Sarthoise classic is inevitably in the back of the head of GPX Racing: “Getting an invitation to Le Mans is in a way the final prize of the championship. If GPX Racing has an invitation, then we'll look at what can be put together. ”

The rest of the 2021 season will include the presence of a Porsche 911 GT3 R in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS in the Pro class. The trio will be announced shortly. Other races are under consideration, such as Enna-Pergusa and Sebring in Creventic, the IGTC in Kyalami and the FIA GT World Cup in Macau.

The door is not completely closed for a second Porsche in GT World Challenge Europe, but only if the program makes sporting sense.

In the longer term, GPX Racing remains attentive to any program, as Pierre-Brice Mena emphasizes: “GPX Racing always wants to race at a high level. We've been believing in GT3 since 2020, so we might as well go as far as possible in the category. The current situation means that we have to wait and observe how things will develop. What is certain is that if GPX Racing can go to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in GT3 or LMDh, then we will look into it. ”
