Andrew Rackstraw lights up his 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup GB title challenge with race victory at Donington Park
Andrew Rackstraw got his 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup GB title challenge off to a magnificent start with victory in his first race meeting with the Rosland Gold Century Motorsport team at Donington Park.
The 23-year old South African driver qualified a fighting fourth for the opening race of the season in his Rosland Gold/Investchem/Sparco Porsche Carrera 911 GT3 – and after making a good start from the inside of row two, the Capetonian youngster took the chequered flag in third place. However, he was denied a podium finish when a five second time penalty for exceeding track limits dropped him to fifth.
Andrew started the reverse grid second race from pole and held the lead going into the first corner. Despite being pursued closely all race, Andrew was millimetre perfect throughout the 24 lap encounter – winning by 0.388 seconds and setting the fastest lap of the race around the high-speed Derbyshire track with an impressive 1:05.852.
Had it not been for the time penalty in race one, Andrew would be leading the Porsche Carrera Cup GB – but instead he left Donington Park second in the Pro drivers’ standings, just one point behind Angus Whiteside, and with the knowledge that he has race winning pace in his 911 GT3.
“I started race one from fourth on the grid and got up to P3, but unfortunately I got a five second track limit penalty which dropped me to P5 at the finish,” said Andrew.
“I was absolutely guttered for the team; however, I couldn’t focus too much on that as all eyes were on starting race two from pole position.
“I knew that race two was going to be a tyre management game. I was under immense pressure for the full 24 laps; however, I managed to stay cool, calm and collected and was able to pull off a lights to flag victory!
“A massive thanks has to go to Rosland Gold and Century Motorsport for trusting me enough to race for them this year and I am incredibly happy to pay them back with a win on our maiden outing together.
“Another huge thanks has to go to all my incredible sponsors who have all worked so incredibly hard to get me on the grid – InvestChem, Rosland Gold, Sparco, Nick and Rachel, and of course my incredibly supportive family!
“This is a great way to start the season. Let’s keep the momentum rolling onto the next race at Snetterton!”
Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2025 Porsche Carrera Cup GB take place at Snetterton in Norfolk on 24/25 May.
