Huber Racing returns to the road to success at the Nürburgring

The Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland returned from its summer break at the Nürburgring. Huber Racing from Hofkirchen fielded seven Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars as usual - after a difficult start to the season, the reigning champions returned to the top group of the strongly contested one-make cup at the Nürburgring.

After a strong qualifying session on Friday evening, last year's DTM driver Leon Köhler and youngster Alexander Tauscher established themselves in the top field of the top-class one-make cup. The two Huber drivers took both half-hour scoring runs from the top 6.

In Saturday's race, Köhler and Tauscher each showed a strong start and moved up to positions three and four. Leon Köhler cemented his place on the podium as the race progressed, thus clinching Huber Racing's first podium result in the overall Carrera Cup Deutschland standings of the 2023 season on Saturday.

Tauscher lost the splitter of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup after contact with an enemy through no fault of his own and was subsequently unable to keep up the pace of the leading group. The 21-year-old from Mitterfeld finally saw the chequered flag in eighth place. Two other Huber drivers, Luca Rettenbacher and Ariel Levi, scored important points.

For the race on Sunday, completely different weather conditions awaited the drivers in the German Carrera Cup. After a dry race on Saturday, the drivers had to cope with heavy rain on Sunday. But even the difficult conditions did not stop Köhler, who once again finished the race in third position. Alexander Tauscher stormed forward to second position at the start, but still had to admit defeat to two competitors and finished the race in fourth place, which is his best result in the high-calibre one-make cup.
Ariel Levi and Sebastian Freymuth also scored important points.

"My start didn't go well, so Alexander overtook me before the first corner. Because he is my team-mate, I didn't take any big risks in the duel with him. Eventually it worked out - I'm happy about my second podium finish this weekend," Köhler summed up after the second race.

Jonas Greif was involved in a serious accident in the early stages of the second race when he spun in the heavy rain and was hit by a competitor. However, the young Greif from Dresden survived the accident uninjured.

Georgi Donchev also finished on the podium twice at the Nürburgring. The Bulgarian finished both races in third position in the ProAm classification. Donchev thus consolidated his good position in the sub classification championship.

"Finally, we were able to return to the top of the Porsche Carrera Cup standings after a difficult start to the season," cheered team boss Christoph Huber. "Leon has been able to get more and more used to the Cup car again after the year in GT3 and showed a strong performance in sometimes very difficult conditions. Alexander Tauscher also convinced me with his performance. Unfortunately, he couldn't keep up the speed in the first race with the torn front splitter, but on Sunday he proved his talent and ability with fourth position. I am confident that he can continue there in the coming race weekends. Now we are looking forward to the two races at the Lausitzring."

After the race weekend in the Eifel, Leon Köhler occupies sixth position in the championship - in the ProAm standings, veteran Georgi Donchev ranks second at the halfway point of the season. Huber Racing is fourth in the team standings.

The next race weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland is already two weeks away - when the top-class one-make cup will be held at the DEKRA Lausitzring near Dresden. Next weekend, the Bavarian team will be racing at Jack's Racing Day in Assen - the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux will be held at the legendary MotoGP circuit in the Netherlands.
