Lukas Sundahl makes history - first with four titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia

Lukas Sundahl has won the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. Again! After three impressive heat victories at Rudskogen Motorsenter, Smålander wrote a piece of Swedish racing history by being the first driver to win four titles in the prestigious championship. - It's fun to succeed with something no one has done before, said a very satisfied Sundahl after the competition in Norway.

Lukas Sundahl started this year's season in the best possible way. He won the five opening races and snatched a big lead at the top of the table. The fact that the reigning champion then lost without victory in the next four races did not matter. Three second places meant that the 24-year-old from Växjö kept his grip on the title and for the competition in Norway, the fifth and penultimate in this year's championship, he came with a 43 point lead and a clear goal to be able to secure the title.

He showed the level already in Friday's qualifier where he secured pole position in all three races of the competition.
Initially, all focus was on the qualifiers. There we laid the foundation for the successful weekend here in Norway, said Sundahl who followed up the qualifying performance by taking the goal flag as the winner in Friday's initial heat.

On Saturday, he followed up with two more victories. And the thing was done.

The season has been fantastic, but winning the title again would not have been possible without the gang behind me, says Lukas and of course means the people in the family team Sundahl Racing where father Per is manager.

Four titles! It was not believed when we started with this a few years ago. Just winning a title in this competition is tough, said a relieved and happy Per.

Biggest in the championship
Lukas Sundahl made his debut in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia 2015. Two seasons later he was involved and fought for the title but finished second behind the experienced Jock Mangs, who won the championship for the third time.

The following year, Sundahl began the winning streak that led him to the fourth title on Saturday. He is thus the greatest in the Scandinavian Porsche Carrera Cup history, which began in 2004.

Until last Saturday, Sundahl shared the "title fight" with Robin Rudholm (2004, 2010, 2011), Jocke Mangs (2008, 2009, 2017) and Johan Kristoffersson (2012, 2013, 2015). Now the Smålander, who turns 25 later this autumn, with his four titles is bigger than everyone! Damn fun considering that no one else has succeeded with it, says Lukas Sundahl.

Tough behind the champion
With Lukas Sundahl ready champion, the battle for the medal places behind him will be most interesting in the final competition at Mantorp Park 1-2 October. At Rudskogen, Hampus Ericsson connected a grip on second place.

I do not have a good view of the table but instead focus on making as good results as possible in the race. Considering that I have not competed here before, I am satisfied with my three podium places, says Kumlasonen who was noted for the placement row 3-3-2.

Satisfied with his effort was also the Gothenburger Edvin Hellsten who with two second places and a fourth place got past Emil Persson and went up to bronze place in the table. But Persson, who after two fourth places finished third, is only one point behind.

Nice that it became a podium in the end here in Norway. Now I look forward to Mantorp, where we will gas, said the Värmlander.

Chased the Swedes
Behind Sundahl, Ericsson, Hellsten and Persson, it was the competition's guest driver, Simona de Silvestro, who was responsible for the strongest performance. The 33-year-old professional driver from Switzerland really impressed and was "chasing life out" especially Hugo Andersson and Patrick Rundquist. Her fighter with the driver duo in Steber Racing was worth seeing.

Simona de Silvestro had hopes of conquering a podium place in her Carrera Cup debut. Now it was not really enough, but two fifth places and a sixth place was a more than approved result.

Bergström close
In the Masters Cup, the class for drivers over 40, veteran Lars-Bertil Rantzow took two victories. The third was conquered by Christoffer Bergström, who strengthened his position as a table runner.

I had a chance to decide the championship in my favor here, but I did not really want to. I need five more points and I will take them at Mantorp Park, says Bergström.
Behind Bergström, Thomas Karlsson took a clear grip on second place before Prince Carl Philip who had a tough weekend in Norway with two broken races.

Annervi won Sprint Challenge
A champion in Norway was also crowned in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia. It was the dominant Marcus Annervi, born in 1996 just like Lukas Sundahl, who secured the title. After eight straight heat victories, he finished second behind Robin Hansson. It was enough by a good margin for the first historic title in the championship to end up with the 25-year-old from Halmstad, who will step up to the Porsche Carrera Cup next season.
