Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand set for Sepang return

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific’s five Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand entries will be back on track this weekend as Thailand Super Series heads back to Sepang International Circuit for Round 4 of the 2024 season.

The championship previously raced at the Malaysian circuit last time out, when it competed on the same bill as Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. Due to adverse weather conditions, only one of the two scheduled races took place, with the cancelled event instead moved to this weekend.

Porsche’s entries will once again run in the GTM and GT4 categories, targeting podium finishes in both.

Firstly, in the GTM class, Kmik Karnasuta continues his solid season in the #17 AAS Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992), while Simon Chan and Li Jia take on the event for Fire Monkey Motorsport.

Four entries will tackle the GT4 category, with Kantadhee Kusiri racing alone in the AAS Motorsport #18 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. The Thai driver impressed at Sepang last month, securing two pole positions and a podium in the only race.

Prakhun Phornprapha and Warren Adulayavichitr claimed Am victory in that event, and they are back for more, at the wheel of the 2W Zoomies car. Erwin de Smit joined the duo on the podium, and the Dutch racer is partnered by Sathapond Veerachure for B-Quik Absolute Racing this weekend.

Best known for hosting the Malaysian Grand Prix from 1999 to 2017, Sepang International Circuit is a much-loved track thanks to its ability to create exciting racing. The 5.543-kilometre layout features a healthy mix of technical and fast corners, while weather is often a factor thanks to the surrounding area’s tropical climate.

The previously cancelled Round 6 will take place on Friday at 10:10 local time (UTC + 7). Practice for this weekend’s events will follow, ahead of qualifying on Saturday morning and Race 1 at 19:25. The action will conclude with Race 2 at 17:00 on Sunday.

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand has been a great platform for us again this year, and I’m excited for the campaign to continue this weekend in Malaysia. The competition will be strong at this event, so our teams and drivers will have to be on their game to secure positive results. To have five cars in action is great for the marque and I wish our competitors the best of luck!”
