Will Aspin aiming to jump straight into success as Carrera Cup heads to Brands Hatch

Will Aspin returns to Porsche Carrera Cup GB action with Team Parker Racing this weekend as the series heads to Brands Hatch in Kent, for rounds three and four of the 2023 season.

The young racer, from Florence in Italy, will be up against it this time out as he races straight from a school exam on Friday, heading to the circuit in time for qualifying on Saturday afternoon, where he scored his maiden series victory last season.

That will mean he needs to be at his best, missing both free practice sessions, but knows he has strong speed from the opening weekend of the season to fall back on, though the results at Donington Park belied his pace behind the wheel.

In the opening contest he gambled on slick tyres having seen a Safety Car board prepared on track, but with it not materialising, the teenager fell a lap down on the field so, despite putting in the fastest lap of the race, his speed was not reflected in his final result.

It was a similar story in the second contest, where he lapped within half a second of race-winning teammate Adam Smalley but had to fight back from near the rear of the field, making up six Pro-Am places in the process.

Will has qualifying to tackle at 14:40 on Saturday, 6th May, before two 34-lap races around the tight, undulating, 1.208 mi (1.944 km) Kent venue a day later, which are set for 12:30 and 16:20, with live coverage in the United Kingdom shown on ITV4.

“Donington just wasn't meant to be, unfortunately. What could have happened is that we could have won the race and it's just annoying that we didn't, because it would have put us in a really good position for race two, as well. It is what it is, and not everything goes your way. It's unfortunate, but I have to move on and look forward to what's coming next and that's Brands Hatch.

“I'm looking forward to Brands and looking forward to jumping straight in the car for qualifying. I'm preparing myself on the simulator as best as I can, as well as preparing for my exams. I've got my global politics exam on Friday, in Italy, and catching a plane in the evening from Florence, flying into Gatwick. My dad will be there to pick me up after a long, long day and I’ll do my best to get prepared for the weekend.

“It will be a challenge, a challenge that I'm happy and excited to take on. I genuinely think it might do me some good to be honest. I won't have time to think about it, and go straight out, get the job done and see what happens. We should be able to be inside the top ten. Pole might be optimistic, but it is possible.”
