Will Aspin heads north for halfway point in Porsche Carrera Cup GB campaign
Will Aspin returns to action in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this weekend (July 29-31) as the series travels north to Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre – Knockhill, in Fife.
The short, 1.3-mile venue undulates around the hillside of South Lethans Farm, with the track being made up of access roads and railway lines which served Lethans Colliery. Featuring blind crests and several corners where cars can literally get airborne, it is a tough test for competitors.
Last time out at Oulton Park, the Florence-based teenager had what he considered a disappointing weekend, taking two third place finishes, but is hoping to be back at the front of the Pro-Am field as he battles with Team Parker Racing colleague Ryan Ratcliffe for the title.
Will sits fourth in the championship standings but is a mere seven points off the lead in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely fought years in recent history as the latest 992-style Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car balances out the field.
There will be an official Porsche test day at Knockhill on Wednesday, July 27, with two 40-minute free practice sessions on Friday at 11:15 and 15:40. Qualifying is scheduled for 14:50 on Saturday, with two 32 lap races held on Sunday at 09:40 and 15:05 – the latter also broadcast live on ITV4 and ITV Hub online.

“I think it's going to be a good weekend. Hopefully, we're not going to have the same struggles or make the same mistakes as we did at Oulton Park and by the end of it, I think it'll be positive. Knockhill is a great track and it's one of those which will be down to qualifying because you can't do much in the races as it is so tight.
“It will be fun to go to the circuit in the Porsche as it has a lot more grip than the Ginettas I've raced there. It's quite a technical track with the chicane being blind on entry, so you have to find your references and make sure that they're good every lap as if you mess up the chicane you mess up the whole lap. That's probably the place where you lose the most time. Our aim is to come out leading the Pro-Am championship as it's the halfway point of the season, but we'll just have to see how it goes, and see what the pace is like.”
