Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd. press conference launches thrilling motorsport season

On 22 July, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd. celebrated its one-year anniversary with a live-streamed press conference to launch the 2022 motorsport season ahead of the 19th running of the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, the fourth year of the Porsche Sports Cup China and to launch the brand-new GT Track Day in China.

Porsche Carrera Cup Asia returns for the 19th season of the continent’s premier one-make racing series

The crown jewel in Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific’s programme, the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia has been stunning crowds and inspiring champions since 2003, and returns this year with 12 Rounds of non-stop racing action at five of China’s most prestigious circuits, with each driver piloting an identical Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 992). The first stop of the season sees the series head to Zhuzhou International Circuit, moving to V1 Tianjin International Circuit for the second stop, and then on to Zhuhai International Circuit for the third round and season midpoint. The series then returns to Ningbo International Circuit, before rounding out the campaign back home at Shanghai international Circuit for the season finale and Night of Champions. This season will see a host of newcomers battle with experienced series veterans, and Daniel Lu Wenlong returning to defend the title he won in Shanghai last year. The stage is set for another stunning year of incredible racing. It’s only a short while until the Offical Test Days at Zhuzhou International Circuit on 26-27 July, with the first rounds following just days after on 29-31 July, which will be broadcast on carreracupasia.com

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd. is not only focused on entry-level competitions and regional racing series, but have an international scope, especially when it comes to driver development, best exemplified with Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Yifei Ye. The homegrown hero has spent his debut year as a Porsche driver developing his skills at some of the most prestigious motorsport events in the world. Vice President Marketing of Porsche China Sky Qiao underlined how exciting Ye’s progression has been: “Yifei is working towards his dream of becoming the first Chinese national to reach the podium in the top category at Le Mans. GT Track Day: Another step in the pyramid making motorsport more accessible than ever

The Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Pyramid gains a new step this season to help ease budding racing talents into the world of motorsport. Sitting between the Porsche Track Experience held at the Porsche Experience Centre Shanghai and the Porsche Sports Cup China, the GT Track Day is an exclusive platform for enthusiasts to develop their skills and deepen their enjoyment of driving a Porsche GT race car or road car on the track. “This exciting new event is aimed at bridging the gap between learning the motorsport basics and taking to the field among other dedicated privateers in a competitive environment,” said Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd. “By providing some necessary track time and plenty of pure driving pleasure, GT Track Day offers the ideal platform for our amateur racers to graduate up the pyramid towards our established racing series.” The GT Track Day official event will be held later in 2022 and the event date will be announced in due course.

Porsche Sports Cup China returns for another action-packed season

Having been launched in 2019 at the Porsche Sportscar Together Day, the Porsche Sports Cup China returns for another four-stop season of motorsport thrills for gentlemen drivers. The season starts off at Ningbo International Circuit, before heading to V1 Tianjin Circuit, then on to Zhuhai International Circuit, before finishing off at Shanghai International Circuit. Senior Manager One-Make Series Dario Garcia said at the press conference: “Our increasingly popular entry-level racing series has gone from strength to strength, and this year we expect an increasing number of Porsche cars with over 600 entrants for the competition.” The season launches at Ningbo on 22-24 July.
