Absolute Racing Teams Kick Off the Season with a Triple Podium Finish
Absolute Racing teams picked up three podium finishes in the opening round of the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia season at the Zhuzhou International Circuit.
BD Group’s Ling Kang kicked off the season with a second place finish in race one. In the second encounter, an early contact with an opponent damaged his car, limiting his performance until the end of the race. He saw the flag in P4.
In a year where the competition is stronger than ever, Carrera Cup Asia Pro-Am reigning Champion Bao Jinlong started the season with another strong performance, conquering two podium places. The Team Shanghai Yonda amateur driver finished third in race one and second in race two.
After a six-year absence HEHEHE Racing’s Zhang Zhendong finished in a promising seventh position in the second race of the weekend.
Pro class driver Bia Ye and Pro-Am class driver Li Chao have had a learning journey in the Hunan Province permanent circuit whose results indicate that they will be able to improve in the coming races.
There is only a month to wait until the PCCA resumes for rounds 3 and 4 of the season, over the weekend 26th/27th August, at V1 Tianjin International Circuit in China.
Fabien Fior (Absolute Racing) said: “We qualified well, raced well, the cars have the pace. We took one P2 overall in the first race, and we are happy to salvage a 4th place in race two despite the damages our car had after a contact. We also won two podiums in the Pro-Am class. I’m glad to have been able to pick up some valuable points with all the hard work our staff have put in, not just his week, but all year. I’m really looking forward to the next, and seeing if we can go even better."
#3 Bian Ye (Team Shanghai Yonda): “There is gain, and never give up. Thank you to the team for your hard work. Looking forward to next round race.”
#6 Bao Jinlong (Team Shanghai Yonda): "The race as a whole was not bad, but we still need to find more race pace. The qualifying for the weekend did not go very well, and I hope the qualifying performance in the next event will be better. The competition in the Pro-Am category is fierce this year. We and the other two opponents, mainly depend on the qualifying performance."
#9 Li Chao (Team Betterlife): “The setup of the car this weekend was great. I have also made some progress and narrowed the gap to the top drivers. I hope that through further communication with the team, I can achieve success in the coming races.”
#22 Ling Kang (BD Group): “I couldn't find a setup that worked for me all weekend. On Sunday's race I had a collision in the very beginning, and the whole race was very difficult. We are eager to make progress at Tianjin, a completely new circuit for the Carrera Cup Asia, but we need to resolve the starting problems.”
#233 Zhang Zhendong (HEHEHE Racing): “In this race weekend, I was the only one driving both the front-wheel-drive TCR car and the rear-wheel-drive Carrera Cup car. It was also my first time driving the Cup car at the Zhuzhou circuit. It took some time for me to adjust to leaping from one car to another. My first weekend in the Cup after six years is quite satisfying. We are very much looking forward to the next round in Tianjin. It will be a fresh start for all PCCA drivers.”
