Porsche aiming to defend GT World Challenge Asia successes with 12 entries primed for 2025 opener

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific will have a strong presence on the GT World Challenge Asia grid, with 12 cars racing this weekend at the Sepang International Circuit, making up over a third of the field.

The marque will be hoping to emulate the unbelievable success of the 2024 campaign which saw it secure the teams’ championship and 1-2-3 in the Drivers’ Standings.

Origine Motorsport is fielding three Porsche 911 GT3 R for 2025, in search of a third consecutive teams’ title. Last year’s drivers’ champions Bo Yuan and Leo Ye once again pilot the #87, having also achieved Shanghai 8 Hour success in the off-season together. Additionally, the squad has already experienced Sepang this year, taking a podium at the Sepang 12 Hours, as well as competing in Asian Le Mans Series for the first time.

The team’s second entry sees Lu Wei continue, after finishing third overall last time out. He will be partnered by Bastian Buus and former Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Alessio Picariello, with the two rotating for selected events.

The new addition to the team is the #86, featuring Li Kerong, who has driven for Porsche in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and at the 24 Hours of Spa. He will race alongside Danish driver Anders Fjordbach as the Chinese squad aims for further GT World Challenge Asia success.

After taking home the Pro-Am Cup last season, Absolute Racing again enters two cars into the series. Porsche Carrera Cup Asia regular Li Xuanyu will be joined by Daniel Lu Wenlong, who won the Porsche One Make Series in 2021, competing in the #321 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

On the other side of the garage, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Pro-Am race winner Wang Zhongwei teams up with two-time Le Mans class podium finisher and regular GT World Challenge Asia frontrunner Patrick Pilet.

In their second campaign of competition, Phantom Global Racing has a pair of cars ready to challenge as 2024 Silver class champion Adderly Fong competes in the team’s Silver-Am #13 entry.

The team’s second entry consists of 2023 GT World Challenge Asia champion and 2024 Pro-Am Cup title holder Anthony Liu, partnering Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci. He returns to the series for a full-time drive with Phantom Global Racing, having impressed on his two outings last season, picking up an overall podium at Okayama.

Porsche Center Okazaki also opts for two Porsche 911 GT3 R as Hiroaki Nagai continues in the #18 car. He will be joined by Super GT race winner and 2024 runner-up Takuro Shinohara or Super Formula driver Kazuto Kotaka for Rounds 2-6.

The Japanese outfit runs the same pairing of Kiyoshi Uchiyama and Tsubasa Kondo in the #25, but Yuta Kamimura replaces the latter in the first and last rounds of the season.

Brian Lee is back for his third year in GT World Challenge Asia with GTO Racing. The experienced Bronze driver has a new teammate for 2025 as 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Nico Menzel joins him for the campaign.

Vollgas Motorsport fields the returning Han Min Kwan in the #33 car, alongside Silver driver Chan Joon Lee. The team made consistent improvement in 2024 during their debut season in the championship, and will be looking to take further steps this year.

EBM will contest the first three rounds of GT World Challenge Asia with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia regular Adrian D’Silva teaming up with a yet-to-be announced Pro driver.

Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter take on the Am-class with AMAC Motorsport in the #51 Porsche 911 GT3 R (991.2). The experienced Australian drivers ended up third in the category last time out, picking up two victories and will be aiming to re-claim the class title they previously won in both 2019 and 2022.

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific continues to build on its robust support package for customers providing trackside support in terms of parts supply and on-site support engineers, it will also supply additional onsite performance assistance to all teams from this year.

Following the event in Sepang, the series takes on a maiden visit to Mandalika International Circuit in Indonesia before taking a trip to Thailand’s Chang International Circuit. Two trips to Japan come next, with Fuji Speedway and Okayama International Circuit the destinations, ahead of another brand-new track for the finale, in the shape of Beijing Street Circuit in China.

On the support bill this weekend in Sepang, Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia also gets on track for the first time in 2025 with its first international event. The championship is open to both GT3 and GT4 customers after the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport was introduced during the 2024 campaign.

The series will return to Sepang later in the year before heading back to Lombok for the final rounds of the season. One of these events will be hosted alongside Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, in what promises to be an excellent celebration of Porsche motorsport at the Mandalika International Circuit.
