Disappointing end to promising race for Absolute Racing at Imola

Absolute Racing trio Andrew Haryanto, Martin Rump and Alessio Picariello did not finish in yesterday’s European Le Mans Series four-hour race in Imola (Italy).

Absolute Racing’s Andrew Haryanto put in a very strong performance in qualifying on Saturday, securing third on the LMGTE grid. The Indonesian driver started the race and was running well until contact with another car just over an hour in ended the #18 Porsche 911 RSR’s race.

The next round of the European Le Mans Series takes place at Monza (Italy) on 1-3 July.

Andrew Haryanto (Absolute Racing - Driver): “It’s not a good feeling, I’m really sorry to the team. They all have worked so hard and deserved a better result today. Our pace was great this weekend, especially in qualifying, so we’ll aim to bounce back in the next round.”

Martin Rump (Absolute Racing - Driver): “I’m disappointed with the DNF, and feel for the whole team. We had a great chance for a positive finish here, but we win together and we lose together. I’m glad we showed some great speed throughout the weekend and we’ll be going for it again at Monza. Can’t wait!”

Ingo Matter (Absolute Racing - Team Manager): “It was quite disappointing because all of our drivers had the necessary speed. Andrew performed admirably in qualifying, finishing third in a field of many more experienced competitors. The long runs we completed during the test day and practice sessions were quite promising. The strategy was excellent, with our car being one of the first to pit under FCY, but then we had the incident. It was a weekend of would have … should have… could have…  We will bounce back strongly.”
