Fifth Carrera Cup victory at Zandvoort for champion Larry ten Voorde

Victory at his home race was a matter of honour for him: reigning champion Larry ten Voorde won the fifth race of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland season at Zandvoort. The Dutchman, who drives for Proton Huber Competition, thus reduced his gap to championship leader Harry King to just two points. The Briton crossed the finish line in second place after 16 laps in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup fielded by Allied-Racing. The remaining place on the podium was secured by Theo Oeverhaus from Osnabrück from the Bonk Motorsport team.

Larry ten Voorde started from pole position, but lost the lead to his compatriot Robert de Haan in the sprint to the first corner. "Robert's start was simply better," ten Voorde admitted later. De Haan, who drives for the team of Porsche Brand Ambassador Timo Bernhard, extended the lead to over a second. However, a puncture meant an early retirement for the 17-year-old after nine laps. "I would have won," he was sure.

Two slips caused two full-course yellow phases shortly afterwards, in which the entire field circled the Formula 1 circuit in the dunes on the North Sea coast at 80 km/h. When the race was restarted, only two laps remained. While Larry ten Voorde drove unchallenged at the front to his fifth Carrera Cup victory at Zandvoort, Theo Oeverhaus and Harry King duelled for second place. "I misbraked after the restart," Oeverhaus explained why he lost in this duel. "But I'm on the podium of the overall standings for the first time, I'm more than satisfied with that," summed up the Osnabrück native.

"The race was really varied for me," grinned Harry King. The Briton had started from sixth on the grid, but was able to overtake one competitor after another. In the process, harmless contact with a competitor ensured that his Porsche was briefly only on the rear wheels on the start-finish straight. "I was very lucky that my car was still running smoothly afterwards. My pace was extremely good, which makes me confident for tomorrow," King looked ahead to the second race of the weekend on Sunday (11:35 a.m.). Until then, his lead over defending champion Larry ten Voorde is only two points.

With fourth place, Dutchman Flynt Schuring secured victory in the rookie classification. "My only problem: I didn't get the tyres up to temperature properly before the start – but my competitors struggled with that too," said the 17-year-old, who competes for the second team of Proton Huber Competition. Kas Haverkort (Uniserver by Team GP Elite), another rookie in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, contributed to the home team's strong performance with fifth place. And Alexander Tauscher rounded off the good result of Proton Huber Competition with sixth position.

Senna van Soelen (Target Competition) ensured that the rookie podium remained completely in Dutch hands with third place. Sören Spreng (GP Elite) from Sauerland won the ProAm classification ahead of Ahmad Alshehab (CarTech Motorsport) from Kuwait and his German teammate Michael Essmann.

"The Circuit Zandvoort is dedicated to its Ruf once again lived up to its reputation and made for a race with surprising twists and turns. We're sure to entertain the spectators again on Sunday," commented Thomas Illner, Head of Operations – Chief Operations Officer (COO) Porsche Germany.
