JDX Racing's Porsche Carrera Cup Program Marches to Montreal With Momentum
The Canadian Race is the "Home" Grand Prix for Canadian Driver Zachary Vanier and JDX Racing Team Owner Jeremy Dale; Alex Sedgwick, Elias De La Torre and Madeline Stewart Each Riding Momentum of Career Best Finishes
JDX Racing joins the Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by RAFA Racing field with its four-car effort again this weekend in support of Formula One for the second-consecutive doubleheader. It’s a home race for Canadian driver Zachary Vanier, the most recent Porsche Carrera Cup North America race winner, during the Montreal Grand Prix, June 7 – 9, who will be joined again by Alex Sedgwick, Elias De La Torre and Madeline Stewart for his home Grand Prix.
The doubleheader weekend takes place on the 2.71-mile Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Notre Dame Island in the heart of Montreal. Saturday's opening 40-minute race is scheduled to start at 5:55 p.m. EDT with Sunday's final sprint set to go green at 9:40 a.m. EDT. Both races can be seen live for subscribers on Peacock or through PorscheCarreraCup.US.
JDX Racing hit the ground running in Friday's opening practice. Sedgwick led the field with a lap of 1:39.708, with Vanier in third just 0.266-second behind.
JDX Racing Pre-Race Notes
JDX Racing drivers enter Montreal, Rounds Five and Six of the 16-race season, with momentum. At the Miami Grand Prix in the last round, JDX Racing led every lap on the track with combination of Sedgwick and Vanier, with Sedgwick starting on pole for both rounds of the doubleheader. De La Torre earned season best finishes as well during his home race weekend.
After leading every lap on Saturday, Sedgwick was penalized 10 seconds for what the official deemed a “false start” in the race. That demoted his No. 98 PT Autosport/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to 12th in the opener, but he rebounded quickly to finish second in Sunday’s race behind Vanier.
Vanier drove his No. 9 Technica Mining/Byers Imports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to the front from third on the grid and earned his first career Porsche Carrera Cup win in Miami.
Despite Carrera Cup making its Montreal debut this weekend, Vanier is one of the few with experience on the circuit. In 2018 and 2018 as a junior formula car driver, he raced his Formula 1600 in support of F1.
Vanier broke his maiden at Miami, scoring a second-place and a victory for his first two podium finishes of his young career.
De La Torre is also coming off of his best career Carrera Cup finishes. De La Torre finished fifth on Saturday and backed it up with a sixth-place finish on Sunday to give JDX Racing three drivers in the top six of the field.
Stewart finished 16th overall during Saturday’s race at Miami, one spot out of the points in her rookie Carrera Cup season. She was caught up in a lap one incident on Sunday that ended her race nearly before it got started.
In addition to Vanier, the Montreal Grand Prix is a home race of sorts for the Colorado-based JDX Racing. Team owner Jeremy Dale was inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame earlier this year.
Unfortunately, Dale will not be in attendance at this weekend’s event following a recent heart surgery. While recovering at his Colorado home he has left the team in the capable hands of Harrison Brix, Larry Ellert and the rest of the top-notch JDX Racing team members.
Vanier enters the weekend third in the point standings, with Sedgwick fifth and De La Torre seventh. JDX Racing is currently third in the Entrant Standings, just eight points out of the lead.
JDX Racing Quote Board
Jeremy Dale, JDX Racing Team Principal: “It’s always special for me when we get to have a North American race in Canada. Most importantly, though, I’m proud of these drivers and the work that they’ve put in. The results in Miami showed what they are capable of individually and as a team. I’m confident we will all carry that momentum into the Montreal weekend and would love to see us bring home some trophies and some points again. I'll unfortunately have to miss the weekend while I recover from surgery, but Harrison Brix, Larry Ellert and our incredible team have things fully under control and will not miss a beat.”
Zachary Vanier, Driver: "I couldn’t be happier to be racing at home in Canada this weekend at the Formula One Montreal Grand Prix. It’s been a couple of years since I last raced on home turf, so to say I’m excited would be an understatement. Looking into the weekend, we’ve got some great momentum to bring with us having recently won Round Four in Miami, so it’ll be important to hit the ground running in free practice and use it to the best of our abilities. There’s a lot of pressure on us this weekend in our home race but I’m extremely confident in our program and feeling good about having a positive weekend toward the championship. I’ve got a great support group this week ranging from my partners, dad, girlfriend, friends and family, so the goals for the weekend are to come away with two podiums - ideally standing in the middle, god willing. Having raced here in 2018 and 2019 I’ll be sure to lean on those experiences throughout my development this week to help the team as a whole to the best of my abilities. Between this, my training and sim preparations for the event, I’m hoping to put everything together and give everyone involved in my program the results they deserve. I can’t thank my dad, partners and the entire JDX Racing team for all their efforts in making this season and weekend so special. Now we get to work!"
Alex Sedgwick, Driver: “I’m really looking forward to this weekend. We have a lot of positive momentum from our pace and progression at Miami as well as a strong test recently at Watkins Glen. It’s about time we right some wrongs from Miami and start to pick some points back up. It’s cool to be racing on such a historic track. Next to nobody has experience on it, so it will be an interesting weekend to see who gets up to speed the quickest and who can adapt – especially when it rains!”
Elias De La Torre, Driver: “We are coming off of our best race weekend Carrera Cup in Miami as we head into the Montreal Grand Prix weekend. It proved to the grid, but also to ourselves, that we belong at the sharp end of the field fighting for the front positions. It also shows our progress and how far we have come, pace-wise. In Montreal, we hope to be right back at it in the front and fighting for metal. It seems like it will be a wet weekend, something that excites me very much. Now is the point where we see if the preparation will pay off.”
Madeline Stewart, Driver: "It's exciting to be racing at another F1 Grand Prix and to be part of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America's first trip to Montreal. The F1 weekends have an incredible atmostphere and I'm looking forward to racing on another GP circuit. With the circuit being new to the whole field it will definitely make for an interesting race weekend. My goal for Montreal is to use everything I've learned at the first two rounds to progress forward. Round by round I'm continuing to improve, which has been a fun challenge. I feel confident in myself and JDX Racing and I'm loving racing in this championship."
