KMS back in Porsche Carrera Cup with Emil Persson and Gustav Bergström

Kristoffersson Motorsport is back in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. Led by successful engineer Ronnie Bergström, the team will run two new Porsche 911 GT3 Cups (992) in the championship this season. The driver will be emil Persson and Carrera Cup debutant Gustav Bergström.

Kristoffersson Motorsport's return means that one of Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia's most successful teams is back in the championship. Kms has three titles, all with Johan Kristoffersson (2012, 2013 and 2015). In addition to those victories, Ronnie Bergström, as an engineer, is the man behind two more titles: Edward Sandström in 2007 and Jocke Mangs in 2008.

In the new venture, which is backed by Porsche Center Stockholm and Porsche Center Danderyd, Bergström will assume dual roles. He becomes both team manager and engineer. To help him, he gets a mechanic's tab from KMS in Arvika.

Ronnie Bergström started his collaboration with KMS in the autumn of 1997 and he has played a large part in the team's success. Supporting Bergström and his son Gustav in this venture was therefore a given for team owner Tommy Kristoffersson.

"Gustav is my godchild and we said that if he wants to and thinks it's fun, of course we should do this. He is young, humble, serious and talented. It will be fun to follow him," says Kristoffersson, who stresses, however, that it is Ronnie Bergström who will have the main responsibility for Kristoffersson Motorsport's new racing venture.

Gustav Bergström made his entrance into motorsport last year. As the youngest driver (born 2002), the former junior elite hockey player made his debut in porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia. He impressed from the start, developed steadily during the season and finished the championship in eighth place after, among other things, winning a podium place.

"Given that Gustav started his racing career in April last year, he is obviously far behind his competitors in terms of experience. But I'm not worried about moving him over to Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. I think he can handle it, as he also showed when he drove the 24-hour in Dubai in January. The effort there was absolutely crucial to our decision to match him in the Carrera Cup this season, says Ronnie.

In Dubai, Gustav shared a car with Emil Persson, Patrik and Henric Skoog. The quartet convinced big and won the class for the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) with the German team HRT Performance.

"The race in Dubai was fun and gave me really good driving training. It was very valuable time in the car down there, says Gustav, who already at the end of this month gets the next chance to get acquainted with the new 992. On March 25-27, Gustav will travel to Italy to run a 12-hour race at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. He will share the steering there with Johan Kristoffersson and Norwegian Ole Christian Veiby.

His first season in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia sees Gustav Bergström as a learning year.
"Our attitude is to start down the ladder with the goal that we will improve every time we are out on the track," says Dad Ronnie.

Gustav agrees, saying "It's very new to take in. Leaving aside Dubai, I have never raced without ABS or driven such a powerful car. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) is like a GT4 on steroids, he says jokingly. His Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport has Bergström left and most likely he will run one or a few races even with it this summer.
"For example, Falkenberg would be a good fit because the Carrera Cup does not compete there. I'm keen to find as much track time as possible, get miles in my body.

As a team-mate and mentor in Kristoffersson Motorsport, Gustav Bergström gets experienced and distinguished Emil Persson. The 32-year-old has a Legends (2015) and dual V8 Thunder Cars titles (2018, 2019) on his track record. In the 2020 season he competed successfully in STCC and last year he took the step over to Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. There he fell on the goal cord in the battle for third place in the championship. Only a single point eventually separated him from bronze medalist Edvin Hellsten.
"The competition is tough, but considering how it went last year, a podium is the obvious goal," says Emil, well aware that it is he the team manager will have the highest demands and expectations for.

"Emil is a documented fast driver and likeable guy who wants to learn more, and who is humbled to be able to do that," says Ronnie, who helped Persson already in STCC 2020 and who obviously had an eye on him in the Porsche Carrera Cup last year. "Among other things, he needs to develop his qualifiers and manage the possibilities of new tyres in a more performance-wise way," Bergström analyzes.

Thanks for the opportunity
Emil Persson does not object and expresses great gratitude for the opportunity that is now offered to him in Kristoffersson Motorsport.
"I'm glad I get this chance and that Ronnie wants to bet on me. This makes you really want to deliver and perform as well as possible. I had the privilege of working with him a bit in stcc and now to have the opportunity to cooperate with him fully means an incredible amount. He is absolutely fantastic in terms of settings. You talk to him about how to experience the car and he has ideas right away. Ronnie is cruel, says Persson.

Also cruel is his rating on the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992). "Now I only have one season's experience with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991 II), but compared to that, I think the new 992, in a positive sense, is a completely different car. Steering, braking, how the car behaves... It is very nice to drive and Dubai became a fantastic fun and perfect drive through for what awaits this season.
