Second win of the season for Köhler, Hartog wins rookie class

The perfect end to the season for Leon Köhler (Nebulus Racing by Huber) in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany: The German drove to his second victory on Sunday at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. “The start phase was a bit turbulent, and I was able to benefit from that. I really wanted to win another race. That it worked out at my home game is of course great, ”said the Köhler who lives in Kleinwallstadt. In the 16th race of the season, Saturday winner and newly crowned champion Larry ten Voorde (Netherlands / Team GP Elite) secured second place. Bastian Buus (Denmark / Allied-Racing) took third place. The last open title decision was made at the season finale: Loek Hartog (Netherlands / Black Falcon Team Textar) won the rookie classification of the 2021 season.

Köhler laid the foundation stone for the victory right at the start. Pole-setter ten Voorde, Morris Schuring (Netherlands / Team GP Elite) and Laurin Heinrich (Germany / Van Berghe Huber Racing) drove wheel to wheel towards the first corner - Köhler overtook the trio on the inside lane of the first corner. Then the Huber driver extended his lead and drove confidently to victory. Ten Voorde crossed the finish line in second place after winning the duel against rookie Schuring in the 14th round. “My start wasn't good and then I got caught between two other cars. We touched, but luckily there was no serious damage to my Cup car. After that I quickly found my rhythm and was able to take advantage of a mistake by Morris Schuring, ”said ten Voorde.

Buus also passed Schuring and thus marked his second podium finish in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. In the overall ranking of the rookie classification, however, the 18-year-old had to admit defeat to Loek Hartog. “I have mixed feelings about the race. On the one hand, third place is a great result, on the other hand I really wanted to win the rookie classification. Overall, it was a great debut season for me, ”summed up Buus. Fourth place went to Schuring, who was only 16 years old, ahead of Jukka Honkavuori (Finland / MRS GT-Racing) and Christopher Zöchling (Austria / Fach Auto Tech).

As in Saturday's race, Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Phoenix Racing) crossed the finish line in seventh place. “To be honest, it was a complicated weekend for me because we somehow couldn't find the right setup. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to put Larry ten Voorde under decisive pressure in the fight for the title. Nevertheless, second place in my first Carrera Cup season is a good result, ”said Güven. The 23-year-old was followed by the two Dutchmen Rudy van Buren (CarTech Motorsport by Nigrin) and guest starter Huub van Eijndhoven (JW Raceservice). Hartog completed the first ten, securing the title in the rookie classification. “Last season I won the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, this year I'm the best rookie in the German Carrera Cup. It's a great feeling.

In the ProAm class, Carlos Rivas (Black Falcon Team Textar) put a successful end to a successful season for him: After winning the ProAm title on Saturday, the Luxembourg Sunday celebrated its eleventh class win this year. Georgi Donchev (Bulgaria / Nebulus Racing by Huber) and Kim Hauschild (Germany / HRT Motorsport) also made it onto the ProAm podium on the 4.574-kilometer track near Mannheim.

“That was a spectacular end to an exciting season. Above all, this is thanks to the drivers and teams who showed great commitment at all the race weekends and who also ensured thrilling motorsport in the 32nd year of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, ”said Hurui Issak. The project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany presented the trophies on Sunday together with Michael Dreiser, Head of Porsche Motorsport Sales.

In the final table of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland 2021, ten Voorde (326 points) took first place ahead of Güven (275 points) and Köhler (222 points). Rivas (350 points) won the ProAm class. As the best rookie, Hartog collected 301 points. In the team classification, the GP Elite team won (461 points).
