Eight Porsche entries are ready to tackle the opening round of Asian Le Mans Series in Sepang, while on the picturesque island of Lombok, the second season of Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia is prepared for a thrilling climax.
Asian Le Mans Series
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific customer team Origine Motorsport is all set for their Asian Le Mans Series debut at the Sepang International Circuit this weekend, hoping to add to their recent successes.
After securing the Porsche Carrera Cup Asia title in 2021, the team has grown to take back-to-back Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia (GTWCA) Teams’ Championships in 2023 and 2024, as well as claiming the drivers crown in the latter. Recently, they also added to their honours by taking the Silver Cup in the FIA GT World Cup for the second consecutive year in Macau.
Their driver line up for the season consists of reigning GTWCA Drivers’ Champions Yuan Bo and Leo Ye, who will be joined by Porsche Driver Laurin Heinrich, forming a strong trio in the #87 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992).
Hong Kong-based racer Antares Au, who has competed in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe, Nürburgring 24h and Spa 24 Hours for the marque over the course of 2024, will be in action for Manthey Racing alongside Klaus Bachler and Joel Sturm.
Amongst the other Porsche entries is former Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Alessio Picariello, competing for Proton Competition. Manthey EMA will take on the series of enduros as well as two Porsche GT3 R (992) from Car Collection Motorsport. Tsunami RT send Italian duo Fabio Babini and Johannes Zelger alongside Daniel Gaunt, with the all-women’s Iron Dames crew completing the marquee’s entry list, making their debut in the championship.
Asian Le Mans Series will host six four-hour long races, run on three different circuits, with the first two events on the calendar kicking off this weekend at the popular Sepang International Circuit.
In the new year, the championship heads to the Dubai Autodrome on 8-9 February, before concluding its campaign the following weekend at Yas Marina Circuit.
Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia
Elsewhere in Asia, Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia is set for an epic conclusion to its second season, with four drivers still in contention for the title. AMM Motorsport’s Moreno Soeprapto continued his excellent debut year by winning Round 6 last time out and now sits 37 points ahead of his closest rival.
Young talent Daffa Ardiansyah Budiharjo will be looking to overturn that deficit. The Indonesian driver has taken victory on three occasions but failed to score in the last two races due to technical issues. Behind Budiharjo sit Aldio Oekon and Hendrik Jaya Soewatdy, who both remain in mathematical contention, with the latter also leading the Pro-Am standings.
In the GT4 class, David Djaja will be aiming to complete a perfect 2024, having won all four races in the category so far this season.
It’s been another great campaign for the ever growing One-Make Series at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit as the curtain falls on the 2024 season, with several new and returning drivers and teams taking on the series.
Yuan Bo, Origine Motorsport: “We’re all set for the weekend, and the crew is working hard to ensure everything goes as smooth as possible. We’re fully focused on starting the series off well and ending a great 2024 on a high after another successful campaign.”
Leo Ye, Origine Motorsport: “It’s great to be entering a new competition, showing how far we’ve come since a few years ago when we were starting in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia. It presents a brand-new challenge but we’re a mature team and ready to give it our all!”
Laurin Heinrich, Origine Motorsport: “I’m excited to continue with Origine Motorsport and to take part in an extremely competitive championship such as ALMS. We were victorious in Sepang earlier this year in Fanatec GT World Challenge Asia so we’re aiming to challenge for the top spots this weekend.”
Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “It’s brilliant to see Origine Motorsport making their Asian Le Mans Series debut! We have closely worked with the team to support their development from their start in the Carrera Cup Asia in 2021, and to see the team’s many accomplishments in these few short years is testament to their commitment and a strong mutual trust. We wish them the best of luck as they take on this new chapter and to all the other 7 Porsche entries – we’re looking forward to supporting them all this coming weekend!
“Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia has been brilliant and flown by so quickly! It’s great to see the championship maturing and developing, and there’s always a real buzz around the paddock amongst the drivers and team members.
