Phantom Global Racing to make 24-hour race debut at Spa

Phantom Global Racing will field a strong line-up of Thomas Preining, Jaxon Evans and Joel Eriksson as the Chinese team prepares to take on its maiden twice-around-the-clock race at the 2024 CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

The squad finished fourth on its race debut at the Bathurst 12 Hour in February with an excellent performance. Evans and Eriksson were also present during the Australian event, so will be looking for another competitive display in Belgium.

Since then, the team has continued its strong 2024 season with positive showings in GT World Challenge Asia, where Evans and Eriksson have raced for the squad, and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

The 24 Hours of Spa will be sure to provide a more daunting challenge. The demanding Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps punishes driver mistakes, and the constant threat of rain in the Ardennes Forest means strategy will have to be spot on across the entire 24-hour enduro.

The squad will be able to count on the know-how and talent of their driver line-up. Reigning Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) champion Preining has taken on the 24 Hours of Spa three times, finishing a strong fifth in 2023. The Austrian racer has plenty of experience in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), having also tackled the FIA GT World Cup in Macau last November.

In addition to his eye-catching performance at Bathurst, New Zealander Evans has a strong racing CV with Porsche. The 27-year-old has won both the Porsche Carrera Cup Australia and France titles and has competed in Porsche GT machinery in various championships, including WEC, IMSA, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and more.

Eriksson completes the trio and will be making his 24 Hours of Spa debut. The Swedish racer also showed excellent pace at Mount Panorama Circuit for Phantom Global Racing and has been racing in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) in the Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS), taking a victory and a podium so far this year.

The 2024 24 Hours of Spa is the event’s centenary running, marking 100 years since it was first held. This edition will be the 76th time the race has taken place. Porsche has taken victory eight times, the second most of any manufacturer and most recently in 2020.

Jaxon Evans: “It’s a privilege to be part of the Phantom Global Racing line-up for the centenary edition of the 24 Hours of Spa. We have a strong crew behind us and together with Joel and Thomas, I believe we are capable of fighting for victory. It’s the biggest GT race in the world on one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport history, so it doesn’t get much better than this!”

Joel Eriksson: “It’s great to finally get the opportunity to race in the legendary 24 Hours of Spa, and I’m delighted to be doing so with such a great team and strong drivers alongside me. It’s been a dream to take part in this race and I believe we are in a good position to take a positive result. I’m looking forward to getting my first taste of our car at Spa in the test days, and then continuing to prepare for the big day!”

Martin Young, Phantom Global Racing Team Director: “We’re really pleased to announce our participation in the 24 Hours of Spa this year. It’s going to be a big challenge, but one we’re very excited for. Following on from a strong start to the season in the Bathurst 12 Hour and in GT World Challenge Asia, we’re looking to continue that with a talented driver line-up of Thomas, Jaxon and Joel.”

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “After a fantastic debut for Phantom Global Racing earlier this year at the Bathurst 12 Hour, we are happy to once again work with the team as they take on their second Intercontinental GT Challenge race. The 24 Hours of Spa is iconic, demanding and will be a real test for the teams competing.  Phantom Global Racing have put together a competitive line-up together with Thomas, Jaxon and Joel, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the team take on the Prologue next week in advance of the main event in just over a month from now.”
