Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia set for season finale as marque prepares for Rolex 24 at Daytona

In an action-packed weekend, the maiden Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia campaign will reach its conclusion as its field of Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) returns to action at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit. Meanwhile in Florida, USA, final preparations are underway for the famed Rolex 24 at Daytona.

In the Overall Sprint Race standings, Rizqy Motorsport’s Rio Saputra Budiharjo and Ahmad F Alam for Apriwa Motorsport find themselves level on point, having taken a win and a second-place apiece so far. A pair of podiums for Achmad Aldio Oekon puts the Citadel Racing Team man in with an outside chance of becoming the inaugural Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia Sprint champion.

While overall Pro-Am victory has already been secured by Luckas Dwinanda, the battle continues in the Am category, as Hendrik Jaya Soewatdy will look to protect his 13-point lead for Merah Putih Racing, ahead of ASC Monster’s Ahmad Sahroni and Febby Sagita of Sillo Maritime Perdana 78 Racing Team. Both trail Soewatdy by 13 points heading into the final race weekend.

Oekon and Citadel Racing have also enjoyed strong results in the Endurance Races, currently holding top spot. Rizqy Motorsport’s Daffa Ab and Dikco Prasetyo will look to overcome a six-point deficit, while Am pairing Soewatdy and John Kwon sit a further four points behind after an impressive campaign for Merah Putih Racing.

The event will take place on 26-28 January, with the Sprint Race on Saturday at 15:15 local time, and concluding on Sunday with the Endurance Race at 11:35. As with previous rounds, the events will be broadcast live on the Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia YouTube channel.

Rolex 24 at Daytona

In a busy week for the marque, Porsche is also looking ahead to the famed Rolex 24 at Daytona. After a solid qualifying performance at last weekend’s Roar Before the 24, Porsche Penske Motorsport’s #6 Porsche 963 will start third on the grid, while the #7 was close behind in a tight session, claiming seventh. JDC-Miller Motorsport and Proton Competition lock out the fifth row, in ninth and tenth respectively for the 62nd running of the famous enduro.

In addition to its four GTP entries, a quintet of Porsche 911 GT3 R will take on the event across the GTD Pro and GTD classes. AO Racing’s dinosaur-liveried car, ‘Rexy’ will start on GTD Pro pole, while in the GTD category, Chinese racer Kerong Li will go from second on the grid, thanks to Klaus Bachler’s effort in the #86 MDK Motorsports machine.

The twice-around-the-clock race is set to start at 13:40 local time on Saturday 27 January.

Bagoes Hermanto, CEO Superstars Motorsport: “We’re looking forward to the final races of the inaugural season of Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia. The drivers are even more familiar with their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars and the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit after the previous rounds, so we expect them to be ready to use this knowledge and extract the most out of their cars, creating exhilarating racing for our fans and supporters. The crowning of our first-ever champions and class winners is sure to be a special occasion, and we look forward to seeing how the event unfolds.”

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We’re pleased with the way the debut season of Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia has gone. It’s really great that Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific  has been able to develop this platform together with our partner Superstars Motorsport, bringing a domestic series to our enthusiastic customers in an important market. Meanwhile, the Rolex 24 at Daytona represents an important and prestigious event on our race calendar, and we’re hopeful for strong results across the GTP, GTD Pro and GTD categories.
