Richardson Racing confirms Porsche Supercup line-up ahead of series debut

Richardson Racing today confirm the driver line-up that it will field when it makes its debut in the Formula One-supporting Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup at Silverstone in July.

The Northamptonshire-based team will compete on the British Grand Prix support package with a two-car team that features team regular Robert de Haan as well as Porsche Carrera Cup GB racer Ross Wylie - who will be making his first appearance under the Richardson Racing flag.

The outing in the Supercup will provide Richardson Racing - winners of the teams’ title in Carrera Cup GB last season - with the opportunity to get familiar with the most prestigious one-make series in the world ahead of a planned move into the championship on a full-time basis next year.

Dutch racer Robert will be amongst the youngest drivers to have competed in the series when he takes his place on the grid for the Silverstone weekend, which will take place shortly after his 17th birthday.

Despite being in his first season racing the Type 992 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car, Robert has wasted little time in showing his pace behind the wheel, dominating the inaugural Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe over the winter and winning races in both Carrera Cup GB and Carrera Cup Benelux.

In the GB series, two wins in the opening two rounds leave him sitting second in the standings, whilst the rapid teen is just a single point off top spot after the opening meeting of the Benelux series at Spa.

Ross meanwhile joins the team for a one-off appearance on what will also be his debut weekend competing in the Supercup.

The 31-year-old - a former British GT4 champion - made his Carrera Cup debut back in 2017 and has since gone on to make 50 starts in the championship, his best result being a race win at Thruxton in 2020; a weekend where he first worked in collaboration with the team.

This season, Ross is competing in the Pro-Am class of the Carrera Cup GB and sits second in the points having taken class victory in two of the four races run so far.

The Silverstone weekend will see the pair in action across three days, with free practice and qualifying taking place across Friday and Saturday before the race takes place on the Sunday morning prior to the British Grand Prix.

Robert De Haan said:
"I’m absolutely delighted to have the chance to compete in the Porsche Supercup at Silverstone, particularly in my first season racing these cars.

"It’s been a fantastic year for me so far with a championship win and lots of race victories, and this is a good opportunity to see how we compare to some very experienced Porsche teams.

"I’m not putting any pressure on myself over the results, and I just want to go out there, do the best job possible and see where we end up."

Ross Wylie said:
"I’m massively excited to have the chance to compete in the Porsche Supercup at Silverstone, as I remember sitting and watching the race the first time I visited the British Grand Prix. The chance to now join the grid myself is something of a dream come true.

"I’ve known Andrew [Richardson - team manager] for a long time as we raced together in karting, and he has done a fantastic job with the team to get it to where it is today. I’m proud to now have the opportunity to join them, and hopefully, I’ll be able to put on a good show.

"The main goal is really just to have fun, but also to do a good job for my main sponsors The Glenturret - Scotland’s oldest distillery - on the world stage. Silverstone’s GP layout is one of my favourite circuits to drive, so I’m looking forward to the experience."
