Richardson Racing confirms Pro-Am Porsche Carrera Cup GB programme with Bitcoin Racing driver Sebastian Melrose

Richardson Racing can today confirm that it will expand its programme in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with the signing of Sebastian Melrose.

The Northamptonshire-based team had already confirmed the signings of Robert De Haan and Micah Stanley for the headline Pro category, but will also now chase championship honours in the Pro-Am class with Seb - who holds dual Scottish / El Salvadorian nationality.

The 25-year-old was inspired to make the move into motorsport thanks to his godfather Dario Franchitti, a four-time winner of the IndyCar Series and three-time victor in the famed Indianapolis 500.

Initially competing in Formula Ford 1600 in Scotland, Seb would twice finish as runner-up in the standings and was also crowned as the Champion of Brands Hatch as part of the 2017 running of the Formula Ford festival.

Having moved into GT racing in 2019 with a switch to the German VLN series, Seb had planned to enter the Carrera Cup GB back in 2020 before restrictions in place as a result of the pandemic forced him to spend a season on the sidelines before returning to action in the Ginetta GT4 Supercup in 2021.

Seb’s programme begins this weekend at Donington Park and will see him contest all eight rounds of the 2023 Carrera Cup GB season, with his home event at Knockhill taking place in mid-August.

Sebastian Melrose said:
"I’m super excited and really motivated to be entering the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season with Bitcoin Racing powered by Richardson Racing," he said.

"Working with the team so far, I can see how professional everyone involved is and they have provided me with a quick car from the outset. I’m really looking forward to kicking things off this weekend at Donington Park, and seeing how I can develop across the course of the season."

Andrew Richardson, team manager, said:
"It’s great to welcome Seb into the team and we’re looking forward to working with him during the season ahead. The 911 GT3 Cup car is very different to the cars he has raced in the past, but he adapted to it quickly when he got behind the wheel for the first time.

"We could see straight away that he has the potential to deliver some good results as the year progresses, and are confident he can make an impression in what looks to be a very competitive Pro-Am class this season."
