SSR Performance partners with Herberth Motorsport for CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa debut
SSR Performance will partner with Herberth Motorport to contest the centenary CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa with a trio of leading Porsche drivers.
The Munich-based outfit is led by Stefan Schlund and rose to prominence by winning the ADAC GT Masters teams' and drivers' titles in 2020. This success came with a Porsche and SSR remained with the German marque for a move to the DTM in 2021. The following season it made a successful switch to Lamborghini, finishing as runner-up in the 2023 drivers' championship with Mirko Bortolotti.
SSR will return to the Porsche fold for its maiden assault on the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa and has partnered with the highly experienced Herberth Motorsport operation for additional support. Its drivers also bring vast knowledge of the race, with Mathieu Jaminet, Frédéric Makowiecki and Matt Campbell set to share the SSR machine.
Each has made multiple starts at the Belgian race, with Makowiecki earning the best finish by taking runner-up spot at the 2019 edition. Between them, the trio have won major endurance races at Bathurst, Daytona, Le Mans, the Nürburgring, Road Atlanta and Sebring; as such conquering Spa is a clear objective for all three.
“It's nice that, in addition to our DTM commitment, we can also demonstrate our skills in the endurance sector," said team owner Stefan Schlund. "I'm really looking forward to our cooperation with Herberth Motorsport, it's definitely going to be fantastic. Our locations are only about 30 minutes apart, which creates great synergies. Spa is also a very special place for me and this track has something magical for all motorsport fans."
By enlisting the support of Herberth Motorsport, SSR has aligned itself with one of the paddock's most experienced squads. Led by brothers Alfred and Robert Renauer, both of whom remain active GT drivers, its has been a regular participant in the Ardennes since 2017. The team will also field its full-season Fanatec GT Europe Bronze Cup entry at the centenary race.
"As a team, we bring a lot of long-distance experience to this joint effort," said Alfred Renauer. "We have been competing at SRO events for years and Spa is always a very special highlight.”
SSR Herberth will aim to secure Porsche a ninth overall victory in the Ardennes and its first since 2020 when the centenary edition gets underway. Track activity begins on Tuesday 26 June, building up to the start of the main event at 16:30 CEST on Saturday 29 June.
