Double pole positions for the reigning champion in the Porsche Carrera Cup premiere
Lukas Sundahl showed the class immediately when the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia started the season with qualifiers at Ring Knutstorp on Friday. The reigning champion was fastest in both Q1 and Q2 and from pole position in both premiere weekend's races he will be hard to beat. - If he takes the start, no one will go around him if it is dry, says Per Sundahl, father of Lukas and team manager in Sundahl-Pampas Racing.
Lukas Sundahl could not have had a better start in his pursuit of a fourth title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia than he did in Skåne yesterday. The 24-year-old from Växjö distanced his competitors by a good margin in both qualifying rounds - and thus won the Mobil 1 Pole Award.
”I did a good qualifier, even though it felt like it was possible to go even a little faster I was having a little problem with the brakes in Q2, said Sundahl who gets Pontus Fredricsson and Hampus Ericsson next to him in the first row in both Saturday's races.
Fredricsson was pushing hard to challenge Sundahl in the first qualifying round but was unable to match the speed of Sundahi.
“Lukas is fast driver, but I can usually get a good start so that's what matters tomorrow all I need to do is to start better than him, says Fredricsson, well aware that his chance for a victory is to take over the reigning champion heading into the first corner.
Sundahl again will start on the front row for race two with Ericsson next to him Pontus Fredricsson who qualified on the front row for race one could only manage a fifth place for race two. ”Ericsson was really sharp in Q2. I do not really know why my times did not get better in Q1, but in Q2 I found the right one and got a really good lap in towards the end” said Fredricsson.
Hugo Andersson also put in some good times qualifying third for race one and fourth for race two. ”That my best qualifying times since Anderstorp in 2019 where under special circumstances I was third in both rounds. It felt good, I think I made a stable qualifier even though I pushed in a little too much in Q1 and ended up off the track”.
Andersson took third place in the first qualifying round with the smallest possible margin. He and Edvin Hellsten were noted for the exact same time, 57,951, but since Andersson put it first, he was classified as third. Fourth place in Q1 became a sixth place in Q2 for Hellsten.
Newcomer Emil Persson was also responsible for a strong qualifying performance. In his second Carrera Cup qualifier ever (drove the final at Ring Knutstorp last year), he finished fifth and third. ”I'm happy with the results it was fun today tomorrow I would like to be among the top five, but it would certainly be even more fun with the podium. I have a good position for that in race two tomorrow, he says.
This weekend's guest driver Fredrik Ekblom had to settle for double seventh places in the qualifiers where Patrick Rundquist was eight twice over.
In the Masters Cup, Prince Carl Philip was the fastest qualifier with his tenth place in Q1. Closest behind him in the list were the title competitors Thomas Karlsson and Christoffer Bergström.
