Efrín Castro, runner-up in the Porsche Carrera Cup North America

Dominican Efrín Castro said goodbye to the last date of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America with two victories at Road Atlanta, but Texan Alan Metni snatched the title of the Pro-Am category from him by one point.

With the two wins yesterday and today, Castro made it nine out of a possible 16 in the second season of the Porsche Carrera Cup North America. Metni added only three victories, but maintained more regularity throughout the season.

‟I had a lot of fun at the end of the season. They were two very well achieved victories and I barely managed to retain the title I won the previous year,” said Castro, who, like Metni, is part of the Kelly Moss team. ‟I want to thank God, my family, those who have supported me, all the members of the team who always do a great job to give me a very fast car and the organizers of the championship”.

The Dominican also had time to highlight his rival's campaign. "Alan (Metni) is a great person and a great driver," he said. “I am very happy because he has kept the title. I am a great believer in destiny and the championship was for who it had to be. We did what we had to do."

Race 16

The final race of the championship was emotionally charged from the first corner when Trenton Estep touched Kay van Berlo, causing several drivers to lose control, including Varun Choksey hitting Metni, sending both cars off the track .

The blow to Van Berlo ended up affecting the radiator of his 911 GT3 Cup, so he had to retire and thus lost all his chances of winning the Pro category title, which was left in the hands of Canadian Parker Thompson, who today he finished third at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

Castro managed to avoid the injured rivals and took the lead in the Pro-Am category. During the 40 minutes of the race he did not see his leadership threatened. Metni had to overcome potions from behind and gradually managed to reach third place, thus adding the necessary points to win the championship title.

The Porsche Junior and current champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, Laurin Heinrich, who was a special guest for the last round of the championship, started from pole position and crossed the finish line in first place, showing the same quality as in his performance the day before. .

Race 15

Laurin Heinrich started from pole position and defended her first place at the start. Behind him was Parker Thompson. The battle for third place between Trenton Estep, championship leader Kay van Berlo and Riley Dickinson ended with a bunt that sent the latter off the track and down to the back of the pack.

Midway through the test, Heinrich lost control of his car on the climb of the first of the 12 turns that make up the Atlanta track and spun, causing the safety car to go out for nearly 10 minutes. After the restart of the race, Thompson moved into first place and in that position he saw the checkered flag.

The fight in the Pro-Am category was led by Metni with his pole position. Castro kept up the pace and put pressure on the Texan, whom he overtook with five minutes remaining.
