Former champ Vaughan makes British GT comeback with Meakin and Team Parker Racing
Daniel Vaughan will make his first Intelligent Money British GT Championship appearance since clinching the 2020 GT4 title after joining this year’s youngest driver, Zac Meakin, in Team Parker Racing’s Porsche.
Vaughan hasn’t raced full-time since his championship-winning campaign with Jamie Caroline and TF Sport three years ago.
He is also swapping the front engined Aston Martin Vantage for the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport RS with which Team Parker scored two overall podiums last season. However, Vaughan isn’t entirely new to Porsches thanks to his two-year Carrera Cup GB stint prior to joining British GT.
His 16-year-old co-driver – who is almost a year younger than anyone else on the 2023 grid – has spent the last two seasons contesting Ginetta Juniors. But he can also count on recent experience of Team Parker’s Cayman via four victories and podiums in Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe.
Both drivers have the potential to make British GT history this year: Vaughan by becoming the series’ first-ever two-time GT4 champion, and Meakin by becoming the youngest driver to win a race, set fastest lap and clinch a title.
“It’ll be great to hit the track with Team Parker Racing after a strong result in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe,” said Meakin. “I learnt a lot competing in those two race events and will look to apply that to the upcoming British GT Championship. There are obvious differences between European and British tracks, but I’m hopeful my previous experience racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship will fare me well.”
Vaughan added: “I’m really excited to be back racing and I can’t wait to get going. The British GT Championship is really competitive, so it will be nice to be back in the paddock and there are a few new things to keep it interesting.
“I’ve competed against Team Parker Racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, I know what a capable squad they are, and I really like the way they approach racing. I met Zac the other day, he’s a nice kid and it’s clear he’s got a lot of talent, so we should be a good pairing.
“I lived in the Algarve for a few years when I was younger, so it will be nice to go back, although I’ve never driven the Portimão circuit. The Cayman GT4 will be new to me but it’s a nicely balanced car and the team have had a year of working with it, so I’ve no doubt that it will be competitive.”
Team Parker’s Porsche and its drivers will attend British GT’s media day at Donington Park on Tuesday ahead of Oulton Park’s season opener over Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
