GT World Challenge Asia reaches the midpoint of the 2022 season

GT World Challenge Asia reached the midpoint of the 2022 season at Fuji Speedway, and Porsche entries made it onto the podium in both races.

In Race 1, Thai pair Kantadhee Kusiri and Tanart Sathienthirakul took third for the EBM Giga Racing-supported AAS Motorsport entry. Hiroaki Nagai and Yuta Kamimura claimed fifth for Porsche Center Okazaki, while Setiawan Santoso and Reid Harker secured 10th in the #8 EBM Giga Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.

AMAC Motorsport duo Andrew MacPherson and Ben Porter finished second in the GT3-Am class as they continue to lead the category. Bankcy and Shinji Takei took P14 overall in the #666 Bingo Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on their season debut.

Nagai and Kamimura earned their second podium finish of the season with third in Sunday’s race, with Sathienthirakul and Kusiri securing their second top-five result of the weekend.

The round at Fuji was the third of the 2022 season, meaning the halfway point has been reached. The next event takes place at Sportsland SUGO on 19-21 August, the penultimate round of the Japan Cup.

Porsche Sports Cup China got its 2022 season underway at the Ningbo International Circuit, with an incredible amount of Porsche enthusiasts and cars gathered for the first event of the year.

Ningbo was flooded with Porsche road and race cars as the weekend began, with programmes catering for drivers of all skill levels. The all-electric Porsche Taycan made its first appearance in the series with dedicated Introduction to Race Track sessions, while the one and three-lap Time Trial events attracted plenty of entries.

The competitive Porsche Sprint Challenge China provided the most advanced drivers with the opportunity to take on their fellow competitors in two 30-minute races. SilverRocket Racing’s Lichao Han claimed victory in the first race of the season, with David Szu and Jianfeng Zeng completing an all Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport podium.

In Sunday’s race, Hangcheng Liu and Absolute Racing took the win in the Porsche 911 GT3 R, with Szu claiming his second P2 finish of the weekend. Jiacheng Sheng rounded off the top three in a successful opening weekend of the championship, which will travel to Tianjin and Zhuhai before the final round in Shanghai later this year.

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “I really enjoyed the first Porsche Sports Cup China event of 2022. It was great to see so many Porsche enthusiasts at Ningbo making the most of the events. We had a great turn out amongst all programmes, which was fantastic and the season got off to a really positive start.

“Over in Japan, I was delighted to see Porsche on the podium in both races, with Porsche Center Okazaki and AAS Motosport in the top three across the weekend. Porsche has had a strong start to the 2022 GT World Challenge Asia season, and with a short break before Round 4 at Sportsland SUGO, we can be happy with our progress so far in the championship.”
