Huber Racing celebrates ADAC GT Masters podium at Norisring

Huber Racing celebrates a podium in the ADAC GT Masters at the Norisring. In addition, the racing team collects important points in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Silverstone.

It was one of the season highlights of the ADAC GT Masters. For the first time since 2008, the traditional GT3 series of the ADAC made a appearance in the supporting programme of the DTM at the legendary Norisring. According to the ADAC, 102,000 spectators flocked to the street circuit in the Franconian metropolis of Nuremberg in temperatures of over 35 degrees. Tim Zimmermann and Jaxon Evans took the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R from Huber Racing.

The team from Hofkirchen in Bavaria started the first race from fourth on the grid. But due to various penalties for an incorrect starting position and contact with a competitor, the #92 car dropped to the back of the field. In the course of the race, Zimmermann and Evans fought their way back to seventh position and were able to collect nine more points.

Things were more successful for Huber Racing on Sunday. From third on the grid, the black and orange Porsche was directly involved in the Porsche battle for victory. Over the entire race distance of one hour, several 911 GT3 R cars fought hard for the race win at the 80th International ADAC Norisring Speedweekend. In the end, Zimmermann crossed the finish line in third position after one hour of racing in brutal heat.

The two Huber Racing drivers leave Nuremberg in third position in the overall standings of the ADAC GT Masters and are thus in title contention after two of six race weekends. The "league of super sports cars" continues next weekend, when the series will be part of the popular Truck GP at the Nürburgring.

At the same time, Huber Racing was active in the "Home of British Motor Racing". The team entered four Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup at Silverstone. During the Formula 1 Grand Prix, an incredible 480,000 spectators created a special atmosphere over the weekend. Local hero Josh Stanton replaced MotoGP legend Jorge Lorenzo at Silverstone, who was unable to compete due to a clash of dates. Stanton already raced for the Bavarian team in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe in the winter and finished second in the Club Division. Leon Köhler, Simone Iaquinta and Angel Andres Benitez from Venezuela drove the team's other cars.

Köhler took up the race from eleventh on the grid and confidently drove through the collision in the leading field, which led to the retirement of several cars. In sixth position, last year's DTM driver showed a controlled race and also finished the race in this position after about half an hour. Due to a guest starter in front of him, the 23-year-old gets the points for fifth place.

Stanton and Andres Benitez each finished their debut in the spearhead of the Porsche one-make cups in the rear of the field. Simone Iaquinta retired early after a collision in midfield. The next round of the international one-make cup will take place in two weeks at the Hungaroring near Budapest.

"I'm very pleased that we were able to end our Norisring curse and clinch another podium result in the ADAC GT Masters with third place on Sunday," said team owner Christoph Huber. "We have proven once again that Huber Racing is also a force to be reckoned with in GT3 racing. What's more, it's great for Leon that he was able to complete another trouble-free race in the Supercup and thus collect further important points."
