Joshua Rogers pursues the title in the global Esports championship

Le Mans may bring an early decision in the fight for the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup (PESC) title. This Saturday, Joshua Rogers could earn enough points on the digital version of the Circuit de la Sarthe to secure the title. The crowning of the champion, however, will take place at the season finale. Rogers heads to the ninth and penultimate round of the season holding a 127-point lead over his Virtual Racing School teammate Mitchell DeJong. Although 170 points are still up for grabs, 44 points would be enough for the Australian to claim the championship title. With his 2020 victory in the main race on the 13.63-kilometre circuit, the 21-year-old has already underlined that he is one of the fastest sim racers on the iRacing simulation platform.

The reigning champion Sebastian Job from the Red Bull Racing Esports team, however, still has an outside chance of defending his driver’s title. A fortnight ago, the British online racer crossed the finish line at the Nürburgring in his virtual Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as the winner of the sprint race. In the main race, however, he went home empty-handed after retiring. Rogers holds a 148-point advantage over Job. Suspense is also high further down the ranks: with Kevin Ellis Jr. from the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Esports team (305) as well as Dayne Warren (LEGO Technic Esports Team) and Charlie Collins (Virtual Racing School) tied with 300 points each, three drivers hold realistic hopes for a top-three result in the overall standings. Moreover, given that only the best 20 are automatically qualified to contest the 2022 season, a battle for a place in the top 20 has erupted.

At Le Mans, the PESC sim racers pit themselves against each other in a sprint race over three laps starting at 8:15 pm (CEST) on Saturday, followed by a main event over twice the distance from 8:45 pm. Fans can watch the events live on Porsche’s channels Twitch (www.twitch.tv/porsche) and YouTube (https://youtu.be/wp0x0DYBaFg).

Beforehand, content creators from the world of esports will showcase their skills in a curtain-raiser. They again fight for victory with the virtual Porsche 911 RSR from the GTE-class. The live stream begins at 6:30 pm with the All-Star qualifying session. The two influencer races get the green light at 6:45 pm and 7:10 pm respectively.
