King back on top while Sherwood steps towards third-straight title
Team Parker Racing enjoyed a winning visit to Knockhill in Scotland as Harry King claimed an overall race victory in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB to get his title defence back on track, while Justin Sherwood took two Am class wins to open up a 28-point lead in those standings.
Coming into the weekend, reigning champion Harry found himself uncharacteristically down the championship order in a wide-open season, but the undulating circuit near Dunfermline suited him, as he finished second in race one and followed up with a win from fifth on the grid in race two, to climb to fourth in the standings with eight races still to run.
His Pro class team-mate Kiern Jewiss occupied top spot in the standings ahead of the event and finished fifth in race one, but while sitting in the perfect position to capitalise in race two, he ran wide on oil with a stone puncturing his radiator and, with fluid leaking out of his Porsche, was forced to retire.
Ryan Ratcliffe remains in the lead of the Pro-Am championship, increasing his lead to 11 points despite a tricky weekend. In race one he fought from third on the grid to claim second place but a couple of off-track moments in race two looked like causing him a headache, before he gathered himself up and crossed the line third, outscoring his closest rival in the process.
In Am, Justin Sherwood was untouchable as he recorded his sixth and seventh victories of the season, looking on course to take his third-straight championship title. Behind him, Justin Armstrong defended well to take second place in race one, but also had to retire in the second contest after spinning off into the gravel.
There is now a five-week gap for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB competitors before they return to action at Croft over the weekend of September 18/19. Harry, meanwhile, is back with the team on Porsche Supercup duty with a triple-header of races to end that season, starting at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium over the weekend of August 27-29.

“We were quickest in every session on Wednesday and Friday, so that filled us with confidence heading into qualifying. We were fastest in sector one and three, but I didn't quite get the middle sector hooked up on my flyer, so I was a bit disappointed to be starting P3. We made progress in the first race getting second, even though we didn't have our new tyres on, so I knew we had a strong race two coming up.
“From fifth on the grid to winning is great, especially considering the Safety Cars, though there were some great overtakes as well, which is always nice. We're leaving this weekend as the highest point scorer, which is good, though I couldn't quite get close enough to the fastest lap because we had the oil down, but we gave it a good shot. It's good to win by that sort of margin.”

“We struggled for pace. Qualifying wasn't what we thought it should be and we finished P4. In race one we struggled massively with the car, so we just learnt from it and made the changes to the car for race two.
“Race two started really well, and we had the car underneath us. I was probably going to get [Josh] Malin at some point, but you never know what's going happen to you. The car felt good, and I knew we could do the job, but unfortunately all that oil got dropped out of the chicane and caught us out, so we bounced through the gravel trap and damaged the car. It is what it is. That's racing and these things happen.”

“Qualifying was close. Really, really close. I think the lack of testing on the Friday didn't help me. But I was happy to get the time I did with without that running really. In race one the pace was good. It was between [Charles] Rainford and I. I'd reel him in, then he’d stretch the gap. He'd make a mistake and I'd catch him, then I'd make a mistake, so, it was just a bit of cat and mouse all the time.
“Race two was probably the most eventful race I've ever had. I had contact on lap one which sent me off and to the back of the pack, so I had to climb back up. I think I made five positions up before the first Safety Car which was for [Nathan] Harrison catching fire. I was right behind him, and it was pretty scary to be honest. It covered my whole windscreen in oil, so I couldn't see, so I had to do a pitstop. I managed to climb back up to third in class and I was pushing Micah [Stanley] the whole way for second. I think I was the quicker car in the class because I caught the leaders, so pace wise I'm really, really happy to end the race with a podium given the way it started. Now I'm going to have a baby!”

“It's always great to come to Knockhill. The weather is always a bit dodgy, but it mixes everything up. Practice went well and it's been close between Justin and I, and Josh [Stanton] in the Am class. I managed to steal pole position in qualifying by a couple of tenths and then we had great race pace. The car was fantastic, I could run with the Pro-Ams a bit and one or two of Pros weren’t getting away that quick, so I'm really happy.
“Unfortunately, Justin missed out and went off in race two, but overall, it was a great weekend for me. It's also a good weekend for Team Parker with Harry getting his win in the second race, it's unfortunate for Kiern, but that's racing.”

“The car didn't feel great, and I wasn't driving very well so it was just a tough weekend. I think it’s one to chalk up to history and move on. The pace just wasn't there, so the race one podium just didn't feel justified. The whole weekend was one to forget but I'll have a think about it and return ready to bounce back for Croft next time.”
