Larry ten Voorde wins in Monza, first podium for Bastian Buus
An important success for Larry ten Voorde (Team GP Elite) on his mission to defend his title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. The Dutchman won the twelfth race of the season at the Italian Autodromo Nazionale Monza on Sunday ahead of Porsche Junior Ayhancan Güven (Turkey / Phoenix Racing) and Bastian Buus (Denmark / Allied Racing). “The wet road dried out lap after lap, these were special conditions. Ayhancan Güven and I had an intense duel, it was great fun. In the end I was ahead of the game, ”said ten Voorde. With his victory at the International GT Open, last year's champion was able to extend his lead in the Carrera Cup and is 28 points ahead of Saturday's winner Güven in the overall standings.
While some drivers opted for slick tires on their Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, many drivers opted for rain tires after showers in the morning. So did Güven, who came out of his starting box best from second position and directly overtook pole-setter ten Voorde. In the following laps, a close duel for the lead developed between the two. Ten Voorde kept looking for a gap, and several times there was slight contact between the two 510 hp cup vehicles. Ten Voorde managed the decisive overtaking maneuver on the tenth lap. In the lead, the newly crowned champion of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup extended his lead and crossed the finish line 3.6 seconds ahead of Güven. “I got off to a really good start, but Larry ten Voorde got faster and faster as the race progressed. I've tried everything, to defend myself. It was a thrilling, but always fair duel, ”summarized Güven.
Bastian Buus was very enthusiastic: starting from fifth position, the 18-year-old rookie rewarded himself for a strong start and secured his first podium in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany. “A great feeling! In the course of the season I narrowly missed a top 3 placement several times, now it finally worked. The wet track was a challenge, but before that I watched videos of rain races in Monza, ”said the youngster from the one-make cup's talent pool program.
Fourth was Leon Köhler (Nebulus Racing by Huber). Rookie Morris Schuring (Netherlands / Team GP Elite) and Laurin Heinrich (Germany / Van Berghe Huber Racing) followed behind the German. Fabio Citignola (Germany / HRT Performance) made it into the top seven as the third newcomer. Lucas Groeneveld (Netherlands / GP Elite) finished eighth. Carlos Rivas (Black Falcon Team Textar) marked his next win in the ProAm class. On the high-speed track in Monza, the Luxembourger won ahead of the Germans Kim Hauschild (HRT Motorsport) and Georgi Donchev (Nebulus Racing by Huber) from Bulgaria.
Güven and Loek Hartog (Netherlands / Black Falcon Team Textar) were in action twice this weekend: The two Carrera Cup drivers took to the start of the Le Mans Virtual Series season opener and completed the esports event in simulators in the Hospitality des Brand cup. Hartog achieved sixth place in his class with the Proton Competition team in the four-hour race on the digital version of the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Güven crossed the finish line two places behind with the Porsche Esports Team.
“With two exciting races, we had a great premiere at the International GT Open. Both runs were completely open until the final phase. With the Sachsenring and Hockenheim there are two more events on the program. I'm looking forward to a hot final phase, ”said Hurui Issak, project manager of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany.
The Carrera Cup drivers will be back on the racetrack next weekend. From October 1st to 3rd, the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland will host rounds 13 and 14 of the season at the Sachsenring as part of the ADAC GT Masters. The season finale will be held in Hockenheim from October 22nd to 24th.
