Proton Huber Competition quintet in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany
Proton Huber Competition can look back on a successful 2024 season in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany. The team from Bayern, Germany, won the drivers‘, rookie and team titles in the traditional one-make series. “Of course, everyone expected to win the championship with Larry. Personally, winning the overall team championship was more satisfying than winning the drivers championship with Larry ten Voorde, because it reflects the good work we did throughout the year,’ said team manager Christoph Huber about the successful season.
In 2025, the team will celebrate an anniversary and start its tenth season in the German Carrera Cup. This makes Christoph Huber's team the longest-serving team in this year's season of the popular series. As in the previous year, Proton Huber Competition will field five Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars for the entire season, driven by a completely new line-up of drivers. At two events, the team will also field two additional cars.
Robert de Haan is one of the greatest talents in international Porsche racing. The 18-year-old was the 2023 title holder in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe. In 2024, he was able to prove his talent with victories in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany and also in the Italian Cup. He has also impressed with strong performances in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. ‘I am delighted to be competing in my second season in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland with Proton Huber Competition. The team's results are impressive, having won all the titles last year,’ explains the fast Dutchman. Christoph Huber adds: ‘After an initial contact in January 2023, I was always keen to bring Robert into our team. Even though we preferred to avoid each other in the paddock in 2024, we have managed to do so and we are very motivated to win many races and fight for titles with Robert.’
With Frenchman Marvin Klein, one of the most successful Porsche Cup drivers in recent years is joining Proton Huber Competition. Klein, 25, was champion in the strong French one-make cup in 2021 and 2022 and narrowly missed out on the title in Italy last year. In the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, he finished third in the 2024 championship with one victory. Klein also competed in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup in 2024 and won one race. ‘We are very happy to have Marvin as a successful and experienced driver in our team,’ explains Michael Dirsch, who heads Proton Huber Competition's involvement in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany. ‘Our goal is to continue to work with him on our performance and to have a good environment for the title fight!’
Sacha Norden, who already competed in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe for Proton Huber Competition for the entire season and was able to prove his speed, also comes from the Netherlands. In 2023, the driver from Enschede became champion in the Pro-Am classification of the Carrera Cup Benelux and was able to achieve an overall victory in the series the following year. ‘I'm very happy to be taking a new step in my career. And to be doing it with the longest-serving team in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany makes me optimistic that we can achieve a lot this year,’ says Norden.
Another up-and-coming talent is 19-year-old Briton Joseph Warhurst, who won the 2023 Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain championship. Warhurst switched to ADAC GT4 Germany in 2024, so he is already familiar with most of the tracks in the German Carrera Cup. In this year's Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe season, he was able to gain his first racing experience in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with Proton Huber Competition. Team principal Christoph Huber: ‘We are very happy to welcome Joseph, a British talent, to our team! After meeting him in December 2024 in Barcelona, we definitely wanted Joe on our team.’
The squad is completed by 20-year-old Colin Jamie Bönighausen from Lower Saxony, who will be entering his second season in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany. After a season in the BMW M2 Cup, Bönighausen – who recently passed his apprenticeship exam to become a plant mechanic for sanitary, heating and air-conditioning technology – moved up to the Porsche Cup and repeatedly showed flashes of his talent! ‘At Proton Huber Competition, you can feel the hundred per cent will to win, everything is geared towards motorsport. I expect an intense season, where I can take the next steps in my development together with Christoph and his team,’ says Bönighausen, brimming with confidence.
In collaboration with the Swedish team Fragus Motorsport, Proton Huber Competition will field two more Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars at the events in Imola and Zandvoort. The cars will be driven by Daniel Ros, who made a guest start in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup for the Bavarian team last year, and 17-year-old Wilmer Wallenstam. The Swedish up-and-coming talent was the 2024 vice-champion in the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia.
‘I am very proud of our line-up in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany,’ says Christoph Huber. ‘After our successful 2024 season, we once again have a very strong line-up of drivers! We are once again combining drivers with experience in the Porsche one-make cups with great talent. In addition, we have prepared ourselves as well as possible over the winter, so that we can hopefully repeat the successes of last year."
The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland will contest a total of eight race weekends in 2025. Six times, the series will be held as part of the DTM weekends, plus two guest appearances as part of the FIA WEC support. The season kicks off at the Easter weekend in Imola, Italy, while the season finale traditionally takes place at Hockenheim on the first weekend in October. For the first time since 2019, the one-make series will be back at the historic Norisring in Nuremberg.
