Mateo Llarena makes history and breaks record in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup

The long-awaited return of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup makes it’s delayed start to the season at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on July 5th. Drivers compete in the one-make cup series that features the 485hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. The high profile season is held as support to the FIA Formula One World Championship, and will feature a busy calendar of eight races within less than ten weeks.

This will be a new kind of pressure that will not only affect both seasoned racers but also the new Porsche Factory Rookies for the 2020 season. Among the young drivers making their debut in the series, will be Latin American driver Mateo Llarena. Mateo made history in the Porsche Supercup by being the youngest ever driver to compete at an age of only 16-year-old, since the series was introduced back in 1993.

Mateo, the only Latin American lining up on the grid, will also be acting as an ambassador for Porsche Latin America. Rising through the ranks of Karting, Llarena’s skills soon attracted the attention of GT teams. Mateo is racing under the guidance and development of German Porsche team Molitor-Racing-Systems (MRS) GT Racing throughout the 2020 season.

Mateo Llarena - ‘’I am very happy and thankful to be part of the PMSC Rookie Programme and eager to learn as much as I can throughout the season’’

In what began in 1993, the Porsche one-make series has provided countless memorable races, full of drama, with drivers being pushed to the limits. With more than 28 identical cars competing against each other in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with 485 HP. The series is a highly prestigious platform for driver exposure in the Motorsport world.  It has launched the careers of several professional drivers such as Earl Bamber, Jörg Bergmeister and René Rast, with Mateo setting up to follow in their footsteps.
