Matt Caruana is new winner in action-packed Knockhill races

Luke McKeown from Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex boosted his title chances with victory in Round 11 of RAFA Racing Club Porsche Esports Carrera Cup GB, while Matt J Caruana from Reading drove to a maiden win in Round 12. Caruana, the reigning Porsche Esports Sprint Challenge GB champion, was followed on the road by real world racer Charles Rainford from Horsham in West Sussex, Rainford took Porsche Carrera Cup GB victory at Knockhill in 2024.

The undulating 1.3 mile circuit was a late addition to the calendar replacing Croft in North Yorkshire, two close races underlined why the Scottish racetrack remains a firm fan favourite in both the real and virtual worlds. Championship leader Sebastian Job from East Grinstead in Surrey came under intense pressure in both races, managing third and fourth place finishes to maintain his championship lead. Meanwhile Aidan Walsingham from Bath in Somerset took two more wins in the Amateur category, further extending his championship points advantage.

McKeown and Caruana win in Pro

Rainford, the reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB Vice-Champion, staked an early claim on overall pole position in qualifying at Knockhill, however his time of 47.838 would be beaten by McKeown who snatched his first pole of 2025 with a 46.928. McKeown got away cleanly at the start of Round 11 to lead his Apex Racing Team colleague Peter Berryman from Corby in Northamptonshire. Leo Gariboli from Hemel Hempstead overtook Job to take third place.

On lap 11 William Chadwick from Wrightington in Wigan found a way by Job for fourth leaving the championship leader in fifth. Job was soon under new pressure from Crofton Woodhatch from Midsomer Norton in Somerset, but as Job’s defence delayed Woodhatch at the hairpin Rainford was able to overtake the latter for sixth. Rainford then closed on Job ahead.

In the battle for reverse grid pole position Alexander Davidson from Menstrie in Scotland used his home circuit advantage to attack Caruana, in turn Caruana pressured Woodhatch ahead for seventh. Woodhatch now led Caruana, Davidson and Issac Price from Telford in Shropshire with all four cars running line astern. However, it was McKeown who took the flag first in a confident win – his fourth victory of the season. Berryman finished second with Gariboli in the final podium spot. Caruana’s result would secure him reverse grid pole position for Round 12.

Caruana led at the start of the Round 12 as Rainford moved up to second following an incident with Woodhatch, Job slipped back as Chadwick got ahead. Caruana now led Rainford and Chadwick with Job in fourth and under attack from championship rival McKeown. Berryman and Davidson would soon find themselves in the gravel trap at the exit of the chicane, meanwhile Chadwick increased pressure on Rainford for second. Rainford led a train of cars stretching from second to ninth – each dicing for position, this allowed Caruana to extend his lead at the front of the race.

With 16 minutes of the race remaining Luke Pennington from Bideford in Devon and Gareth Higgins from Exeter in Devon were involved in an incident with Daniel Cofield from Doncaster in South Yorkshire, and Scott Moakes from Meppershall in Bedfordshire. Pennington and Higgins made contact in dramatic style. Further drama saw Davidson turned around at the hairpin. Chadwick attempted a pass on Rainford on the approach to Duffus Dip but his outside line was ultimately blocked.

In the closing stages of the race Job ran wide at Clark allowing McKeown to close, however McKeown would soon suffer a spin at the chicane relegating him down the order. Caruana took the checkered flag first for a maiden championship win, he enjoyed the biggest winning margin of the season – more than seven seconds. Rainford finished second on the road but post race penalties for Rainford would promote Chadwick to second and Job to third.

Walsingham enjoys another perfect weekend in Am

Amateur category championship leader Aidan Walsingham from Bath in Somerset started ahead of his rivals in Round 11, he led Guy R Edwards from Staines-upon-Thames in Surrey and Cofield at the start of the first 32 lap race. On the second lap Moakes grabbed third in the category battle but Cofield quickly got back ahead. Am racer Christian Szaruta from London found himself fighting with Pro driver David Williams from Leicester in Leicestershire, following contact both would continue their races. Walsingham drove to his fifth win of the season, Edwards was second with Cofield in third.

Walsingham led Edwards and Cofield at the start of Round 12. Following an incident between Pennington, Higgins, Cofield and Moakes, Stevens adopted third in the Am category battle during the second half of the race. However in the closing stages Cofield would get the position back, leading to a finishing order on the road of Walsingham from Edwards and Cofield, but a post race penalty for Cofield would promote Szaruta to the final podium place. Walsingham’s result marks his sixth Am win, and a fourth consecutive category victory as he increases his championship chances.

Following the weekend for an incident between David Williams and William Chadwick in qualifying, five seconds was added to the accumulated penalty time (APT) of Williams. For an incident between Crofton Woodhatch and Charles Rainford in Round 12, 10 seconds was added to the race time of Rainford. For an incident between Jacob Tofts and Luke Pennington in Round 12, five seconds was added to the race two time of Pennington. For an incident between Scott Moakes and Daniel Cofield in Round 12, 10 seconds was added to the race two time of Cofield. Finally, for an incident between William Chadwick and Charles Rainford in Round 12, two seconds was added to the race two time of Rainford.
