Pascal Wehrlein clinches pole position and extends championship lead

Porsche continues to lead Formula E in two classifications at the halfway point of the season. Pascal Wehrlein started from pole position on Saturday in Monaco and extended his championship lead. On the famous Grand Prix circuit in the Principality, he crossed the finish line in fifth place in his Porsche 99X Electric. António Félix da Costa finished seventh for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. After reaching the duels in qualifying, he had to fight his way back in the race due to a collision through no fault of his own. From position 20, he temporarily moved up to sixth place directly behind Wehrlein. With the points haul, Porsche defended its lead in the race for the manufacturers' trophy.

The best driver of the Porsche customer team Andretti Formula E was Norman Nato, the Frenchman finished tenth. World Champion Jake Dennis in the second Porsche 99X Electric of Michael Andretti's team needed a new front wing after a collision. He finished in 20th place.

A chronology of the race can be found in this post on the X channel.

On the Thursday before the E-Prix, Formula E and the FIA unveiled the so-called Gen3 Evo, the next generation of vehicles in the electric world championship, in Monaco. It will start next season. With a time of 1.86 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, the Gen3 Evo is said to be the fastest accelerating formula racing car in an FIA championship. The biggest innovation: In qualifying, at the start and in attack mode, the front wheels can also be driven.

Quotes on the Monaco E-Prix, Race 8
Florian Modlinger, Overall Project Manager Formula E:
"These were extremely important points for us. We can't be completely satisfied, because when you start from pole, you want to fight for the podium. António dropped back early in an unfortunate situation, which limited us strategically. He had to fight his way through the field and did a sensational job. Pascal was on his own against two teams with two cars each, who played out their strategic advantage very well. Looking at the overall standings, it was important for Pascal to take home the points in fifth. As a result, he has extended his championship lead. We are second in the team standings and continue to be the best manufacturer. So we're going into the second half of the season with confidence and looking forward to our home races in Berlin."

Pascal Wehrlein, Porsche works driver (#94): "That was a difficult race. I lost a lot of time due to the early attack mode. After that, there were two Jaguars and two DSs in front of me. They did it very cleverly, took their space and often rode in pairs next to each other. There wasn't much I could do. It's a shame because our pace was better than we were able to show today."

António Félix da Costa, Porsche works driver (#13): "Being in the wrong place at the wrong time – that seems to be my problem at the moment. It could have been a good day for us. I was seventh in qualifying and had a good car in the race. I was patient, I didn't rush anything. But then the track was blocked in front of me, I got stuck and fell back. We'll keep our heads up and keep fighting."
