Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe bridges the winter months with a brand new championship
Three events in the winter of 2023 and five in the winter of 2024 make it possible to continue driving and racing in the winter months, according to the good concept of the Porsche one-make series.
Racing a Porsche in Europe during the winter months is something a lot of people have probably already thought about but hasn't really been possible until now. Cup Challenge Benelux BV is now changing that, because after the well-known competitions in the Benelux, with the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, and the Porsche Endurance Trophy Benelux, there is now a Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe. The philosophy of the new series is in line with the Porsche Sprint Challenge Benelux, but the meeting place is completely different.
“That's right,” says Lars Plato, the Series Manager of the new championship. “We are moving to the south of Europe for the obvious reason: the beautiful weather, which makes it much easier to organize an event on a track in this period of the year. It is Porsche racing during the European winter season, in the tradition of what Porsche already offers today. The events will be spread over two days, with a day for testing and a day reserved for racing, optimizing track time in the most efficient way possible. Two races are scheduled per event, with a maximum of about 25 cars on track at the same time. The whole is aimed at an optimal experience of the tests and the races.”
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe will obviously be racing in the south of Europe with a first event on January 20 and 21 in Valencia, followed by a second meeting in Portimão, Portugal (11-12 February) and concluding in Barcelona (24-25 February). The first season consists of three meetings, in 2024 five meetings are aimed, of course also in the countries around the Mediterranean.
The Porsche Sprint Challenge Southern Europe has a national status and thus offers a perfect preparation for drivers that aim for an international license. "With two races per meeting and three appointments this winter, you can cover a lot of test kilometres and also record six results in total," said Lars Plato.
In concrete terms, various types of Porsche are allowed, of course, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 992 – and the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, but if the starting fields allow it, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – Type 991 – and the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport– Type 981, as far as the maximum number of cars per division (GT3 Cup and GT4 Clubsport) does not exceed 25. During all track sessions, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be separated. Depending on their experience and level, the participants also participate in various classes (see overview schedule below).
As is the case for all Benelux Porsche Cups, all meetings have Technical Customer Support and the Spare Parts Service, as well as Porsche hospitality on site.
