Porsche takes double victory at inaugural SRO GT Cup weekend alongside Porsche Carrera Cup Asia in Shanghai
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific enjoyed a busy and successful weekend of motorsport, with victories in the opening event of SRO GT Cup, as Porsche Carrera Cup Asia put on a superb show, both at Shanghai International Circuit.
Meanwhile, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci had a strong Nürburgring Langstrecken Serie debut, taking second for Falken Motorsport. In Japan, seven x seven Racing took Super Taikyu victory on its maiden outing in the championship to complete an excellent weekend for the marque.
SRO GT Cup
The brand-new championship, aimed at Bronze and Silver drivers, made its highly anticipated debut supporting the Chinese Grand Prix, with six Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport in action.
In the opening race, Moritz Berrenberg moved his way up from third in class to the lead and produced an impressive drive to secure a brilliant victory for Maxmore W&S Motorsport.
He was joined on the podium by Ultimate Racing’s Yang Chunlei, who started on Am category pole position, after crossing the line third. Lenny Tian Weiyuan (RSR GT Racing) and Wu Zhen Long (Incipient Racing) both recorded points finishes, coming seventh and 10th respectively.
On Sunday, in tricky early morning conditions, the #927 Maxmore W&S Motorsport once again showed its class in the hands of Berrenberg, who battled his way into the race lead in the closing stages to ensure a perfect start to the season with a double Am-class victory.
After not completing Race 1, both Wang Yang (610 Racing) and Jiang Ruxi (RSR GT Racing) secured positive points finishes, crossing the line in fifth and seventh respectively.
The remaining three entries would end up narrowly outside the top ten with Lenny Tian Weiyuan in 11th followed by Yang Chunlei and Wu Zheng Long just behind in 13th.
The series heads to Zhuhai International Circuit next, before supporting the Fanatec GT World Challenge finale in Beijing. The last event of what promises to be an exciting campaign of action takes place at the world-famous Guia Circuit in Macau in November.
Moritz Berrenberg, Maxmore Racing: “It’s been an incredible weekend and to win twice in front of this massive crowd is a special feeling. We surpassed our own expectations by securing victory in both races, but it wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing work of the team, who prepared the car to perfection.”
Yang Chunlei, Ultimate Racing: “I feel incredibly fortunate to be taking part in a championship which is on the support bill of the Chinese Grand Prix. I was delighted to take pole position and a podium in class during the opener. We’ve learnt a lot from the action and I’m looking forward to the upcoming GT races for the remainder of the year.”
Wang Yang, 610 Racing: “I’m pleased to finish fifth in the Am-class and eighth overall during Sunday’s race after the disappointing DNF in the opening event. I really enjoyed some of the battles over the course of the weekend and can’t wait for the next rounds in Zhuhai.”
Jiang Ruxi, RSR GT Racing: “The entire weekend was full of ups and downs after such a long time without racing and trying to find the correct setup. However, during Sunday’s round I felt comfortable and in the groove, so I’ll be aiming to carry this momentum into the next event.”
Lenny Tian Weiyuan, RSR GT Racing: “It’s an amazing opportunity to race in this newly formed championship and I’m pleased to finish both rounds, with the highlight being the seventh-place finish in the Am category during the opener.”
Wu Zhen Long, Incipient Racing: “It’s great to finish both races and look competitive in the Am-class after the challenges we faced earlier in the weekend. I couldn’t participate in either practice session and then had a technical issue during qualifying. In the end, I’m satisfied with the outcome of the event, which was possible thanks to the amazing work of the team.”
Porsche Carrera Cup Asia After a thrilling 2024 campaign, Porsche Carrera Cup Asia returned in Shanghai with debutant and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Talent Pool Presented by Michelin member Enzo Trulli (TORO Racing) taking pole position for the first race of the new season.
The Italian would lead until the latter stages when he was passed by last year’s runner up Dylan Periera, but a time penalty for the Team Shanghai Yonda BWT driver meant Trulli would wrap up a debut win.
Origine Motorsport’s Wang Zhongwei secured the Pro-Am honours with Munkong Sathienthirakul (EBM) clinching the Am-class victory. The newly introduced Masters category was won by Adrain D’Silva in a dramatic opener.
Periera started on pole position for Race 2 and after a clean getaway never looked back, putting in a dominant display to stand on the top step of the podium for the first time in 2025.
TORO Racing’s Eric Zang earnt a home win in Pro-Am while Sathienthirakul ensured a double Am-class victory to get his campaign off to the perfect start. Adrian D’Silva also wrapped up his second success of the weekend in the Masters category.
The series now visits a new track on 18-20 April as the championship heads to the Mobility Resort Motegi Circuit in Japan.
ADAC Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS)
Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Dorian Boccolacci was also in action on Saturday taking on the first round of the ADAC Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) with Falken Motorsport.
The Frenchman, alongside Nico Menzel, produced an excellent debut in the Porsche 911 GT3 R to cross the line in second, securing a 1-2 finish for the team and an all-Porsche podium in the GT3 class at the fearsome Green Hell.
Dorian Boccolacci, Falken Motorsport: “I’m delighted to pick up a top three finish in my maiden NLS outing in what was a difficult event where our strategy calls were tested.
