Preparations in full swing for virtual Le Mans

Let’s imagine: It’s January 2022, motorsport is on winter break, yet Porsche are competing to defend the title at Le Mans. What may sound strange to die-hard motorsport fans is reality – virtual reality. The Porsche Esports Team is once again fighting for the title. When the real 24-hour race of Le Mans had to be postponed from its original date in June due to health and safety concerns, the organizers announced the virtual counterpart of the endurance classic without further ado. And with it, the first entry of the Porsche Esports Team.

Endurance racing in series format

Let’s take a brief look back: In 2020, the first edition of the virtual 24-hour race was held as a stand-alone event format. The significant innovation for the upcoming race is the currently running series format. Since September, the teams have been racing against each other in the Le Mans Virtual Series. In the process, the Porsche Esports Team duelled in Monza, in Spa-Francorchamps and on the Nordschleife. The fourth race of the season follows at the end of December: the 500 Miles of Sebring. The race at Le Mans on 15 and 16 January will be the finale of the season.

Faced with the postponement of the Autosport Show in Birmingham, the Virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans will once again take place in Paris at Studio Gabriel.

The starting grid will consist of 50 cars divided into two categories: LMP, GTE. No less than 200 drivers from all over the world will be on track virtually on the grand circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Some big names in Formula 1 are expected on the starting grid.

To steer the whole thing, EDUARDO Freitas, WEC race director, will be in front of the screens to make sure everything goes smoothly on the track. The TV production team, which successfully participated in the first edition, will bring the event to life broadcast all over the world with the added bonus of the intervention of many actors from the world of Endurance. Porsche will also be broadcasting the race live – as they did in 2020. Porsche will also be taking you behind the scenes of the team before and during the race action. Furthermore, Porsche will introduce you to the team behind the team and deliver 24 hours of simracing action. Preparations are already in full swing, and we will be announcing some highlights in the coming days and weeks.
